Wow, a steal of which you'll have to take 5,000 dollars from someplace to pay for the item! But I'm so glad you got it! It's incredible what you can find on Ebay....

Well, I can't really wait until the last minute on my computer, because, unlike all of you, I only have dial up, so by the time I place my bid and refresh the page, I will have already been outbid. I could care less if I tell anyone on here and they win it, big deal. I posted that I had found it and was bidding on it because that's what was going on in this topic at the time. However, I did win it, so I guess it didn't do me any harm to have said that anyroads

I know you do; I can hear the sinister giggle all the way over here.
Isn't that some kind of bird, or something?

Yes, it's an extinct bird from the Triassic, if my anthropology serves me correctly...oh, heck, it probably doesn't that wasn't ever my strong point, the epochs and all of that...what happened in the jurrasic, triassic, neolithic.....yadda yadda, you can all wake up now lol

Alright, so I finally got the chance to watch it. It took me three tries, because I was trying to watch it on my laptop and the DVD player on there is messing up, and since the disc doesn't have a chapter menu, I always had to go back and fast forward it from the beginning, but anyways....here's what I thought of it.
Of course, as we all know, the two actors don't really look like Dean and Jerry, that doesn't bother me at all really. The point of the film is to get across in 92:12 how the Martin and Lewis Money-Making Machine came about and what caused it to fall apart.
The first time I ever watched this movie, I had no idea who these people were. I was vaguely interested in them, since I had caught a snippit of a Jerry Lewis movie on TCM and also, Jerry's book was coming out around that time, and I remember reading an interview with him about it, and to be honest with you, I bought the book, which I also read not knowing who they were, because I thought the two peopleon the front were rather good looking and I liked the layout of it too.
My conclusion from watching it now though, since I do know who they are, is that the movie seems very sad to me now. They have a montage where they fly movie posters, with the actors portraying Dean and Jerry, across the screen, while they're in the background at different clubs dancing around and having fun, and I don't think they could find any happy music for that bit.
Of course the end is sad, but I think it just ends so...abruptly. I don't know where else they could have taken it, but I think it was just so abrupt. It was a nice ending. Dean going to Jerry's dressing room and Jerry saying that it was the best show yet, Jerry saying, "love ya" to Dean and Dean actually saying, "Love ya back" and leaving, then fade to black. Maybe too abrupt for me, but find for other, I just don't know where they could have taken it.
Everything I've read about it, people complain because some events have all been smashed into one. It's a movie, they have to be. They don't have ten years to cover all ten years of what happened to the team, and other important things had to be left out in order for other things to be put in, and I'm sure Jerry had a big say in what happened in the film, so I'm sure other things were left out at his request.
Yeah, Jeremy Northam tries to hard to be cool, and Sean Hayes isn't as zany as Jerry, but I think the movie is great, despite these things. The actors put in great performances and the movie was believable. I think I liked it more the second time, being able to understand what was going to happen and what was happening, but I think the first time I watched it, not knowing what Martin and Lewis were, it seemed Magic. But it was nice to watch it a second time.
I think I'll take some screen caps sometime later, just to share with everyone.

Actually, you can't pick it up, because I haven't seen any more copies on e-bay. I guess I got one of the few that are floating around. But, just keep checking, maybe someone will put one on there soon.
Actually, "dodo" is an extinct bird, "doodoo" is a bowel movement!

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!
I've heard of the bird, from Australia right? I'm really not the brightest star in the sky, I didn't go to college or anything, but I might head back soon someday and go all out 'learnin'" myself. LOL!
You're too funny, Meggy! Your'e like the educated Peter Lawford and I'm like Dean, just a happy go lucky, fun loving, people lovin' swinger. LOL!

Oh, another thing about the movie...to get this thread back on topic...
One thing I didn't like was that they made Jeannie seem really mean. She would read reviews to Dean, and he didn't really care to hear them, but the one scene that stands out in my mind was one where Dean is watching TV and Jeannie comes in with a review and reads it to Dean, he tells her that he is watching TV and he doesn't want to hear the review, she tells him he's not happy, he says he is, and then they have a little tussle, she looks at him and says, "When I first met you, I told you there was something missing, well, I know what it is now, it's you Dean!" But, she was just always mean towards Dean through the film, and towards the partnership.
They also made Patti seem rather naive and Betty didn't show up much, but she wasn't made out to be as naive as Patti.

That's mean on their part, Jeanne loved Dean and Dean loved Jeanne more than anything. So I probley won't be a big fan of that flick. It sounds like it's a pretty lowdown mean movie. What do I know, though?

Actually, it's kind of cute, most of it, because Jeanne isn't in a lot of it, just a few parts where she's like really cocky with Dean, and you barely get to see Patti and Jerry together, but they have a little tussle and that's about it.

After reading a bit of Deana's book, not to get off topic, but Deana writes that Jeanne would throw mirrors through shower doors and scream at Dean when she was sleeping, and Jeanne's hollers would wake her up.
Then theres talk in the book about Jeanne saying that 'Dean was a quiet man, not happy, a loner'.
But Dean was always a happy guy, talked all the time and loved to hang with people. So I'm kinda wondering about Jeanne.

I really wanna read that book, I must get it! I was hoping to get it at my local bookstore, but they don't carry it anymore Well, maybe there was some truth to Jeanne's character in the movie. She completely changed, when Dean was still married to Betty, she was all lovey-dovey, and then after they got married, she was really mean and nasty....so hmm, I wonder about Jeanne as well!

Get it at Amazon.com Megg. They have it there too, pick up 'Baby, I Don't Care' about Bob Mitchum too, you'll fall in love.
Sad about Jeanne. I was shell shocked what I read about her in the book, I always thought she was a sweety pie. I hope Dean had other women in his life that made him happy. Marilyn was one , Angie Dickinson and Shirley and June Allyson. Do we know of any others?
Be prepared for Deana's seldom rants in the book. She's kinda selfish, was mad when Deany was working alot, always wanted him to buy her things. She really did love him though, but probley felt outcast with the other 6 kids Dean always doted on. At least Dean's memory is still thriving like crazy around.
