A couple weeks later, Kim and Rhett walk down the streets of fashionable New York arm in arm, discussing their plans for marriage. "My friends, when they see you, will be absolutely and utterly jealous!" Rhett says as he holds a large diamond necklace up to Kim's neck. "You'll be the most popular millionairess in the whole country!" He adds, laughing excitedly. Kim smiles weakly, she can feel her old self creep back into her life -- feelings of selfishness, vanity and snobiness set in; and it makes her skin crawl. "Rhett." Kim says as she kindly pushes his hand away. "Yes my dear?" "What do you think about living in the country?" She inquires, hoping there would be at least a glimmer of hope yet for her future in the country. "Oh, I don't know." Rhett laughs it off. "I've never cared for it myself. Why do you ask?" "Well, Cole and Angie--" "Cole's a cowboy, sweetheart! You and I are city people; and we'll always be city people." Each reply from Rhett kills Kims' dream a little more and sends her into a depression she's been trying to ignore for the past 2 weeks. "I guess you're right." Kim says softly, crying silently. They walk out of the store and continue walking down the street until they come to a small park bench. "Do you want to move out there and become some hillbilly woman?" Rhett laughs at the thought of Kim ever being able to give up such a life of luxury for a farm. "I have lived out there for 3 months, Rhett; and I loved it. I don't think I could ever get used to this way of life again." Kim replies. But she wouldn't dare tell him that she loathes this way of living and would never want to get used to it again. "You'll get used to it, sweetheart; don't you worry that pretty little head of yours." Rhett smiles, kissing her forehead. "Say, aren't you due for another hair coloring? It's looking a bit drab and dishwatery." He says as he takes a piece of her hair in his fingers and looks it over...as if he's looking for ticks (LOLOL, I'm sorry, I could not help it!) Kim takes a deep sigh and runs her fingers through her hair. "I'll do it tomorrow." She replies quietly, actually wanting to grow her natural color back, the way she had it on the farm. "Good, I want you looking your best when I introduce you to my closest friends tomorrow evening.” Rhett says proudly. He opens up a case with diamond earrings and sets them down in front of her. “Here; these will make you feel better and looking as beautiful as an empress.” He smiles. Kim looks down at them and scoffs to herself, 'Empress?' You mean a mannequin to gratify your vanity... "No Rhett, I couldn't accept these." "Sure you can, my dear! I want you to have them!" "But I don't want them!" Kim says frustrated. Rhett gives Kim a confused look. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound ungrateful." Kim shakes her head and walks back home.

*Angie and Cole were getting settled into married life back at the ranch and loving every minute of it like typical newlyweds. Tom moved back to his aunt's house and still came around during the day to help out Cole but mostly kept to himself.*
Angie: It seems so strange here without Kim, and Tom isn't around as much anymore. *she said finishing up their supper as Cole sat at the table*
Cole: Yeah it does. I hope you're not getting bored already with just me? *he said pretending to be upset*
Angie: No, I'm not sick of you quite yet *she said jokingly*. As much as I miss Kim, it is nice to only have to cook for two. Although you eat enough for three or four people. I honestly don't know how you stay so slim.
Cole: Just lucky I guess. *he said getting up and walking over to her putting his arms around her waist.* Will you still love me if I get a big ole gut?
Angie: I suppose. Will you still love me if I get fat and everything starts to sag?
Cole: Nah, I'd probly just trade you in for a younger, thinner model.
Angie: Oh you think you're so funny don't ya? Now let me go or you'll get a burned supper.
*After supper they sat outside in their rocking chairs on the porch enjoying the cool night air.*
Angie: I can't imagine ever living in a city again. I certainly never thought I'd live in the country but I really love it out here.
Cole: I distinctly remember a young woman who lived here earlier this summer saying the exact opposite.
Angie: *moving to his chair and cuddling up in his lap* Well she's changed her mind.
Cole: I'm glad because I'm definitely no city boy. *he said as he kissed her forehead*
Angie: No you're not. You're country through and through and I wouldn't change that for the world.
*Cole picked Angie up and carried her inside kissing her sweetly.*

Later that afternoon as Kim lies on her bed with a picture of Tom in her hands, she sobs and thinks, perhaps, maybe she made the wrong decision after all. I don't want to become a rich snob, again; but that's just where I'm headed if I marry Rhett. I couldn't go back to Tom; he'd never take me back... There's a faint knock on the door. Kim perks and looks up, wiping the tears from her eyes quickly. "Come in." her voice quivers. Rhett opens the door and walks in then takes a seat beside her on the bed. "What's the matter, Kim?" Kim doesn’t answer; Rhett glances at the photo that she has griped tightly in her hand. “Is that him?” He asks indifferently. Kim looks down at the photo and replies softly, “Yes.” Rhett knows about Kim’s decision two weeks ago at the ball; she’s told him the whole story – from the day her and Angie arrived at the ranch to the moment she walked out of Tom’s life, again -- forever. “Good chap; but you know he had nothing to give you. You’ll feel better once you’re in a beautiful dress and your hair’s done-up.” He pats her hand politely then reaches into his pocket, pulling out the necklace he held up to her neck earlier this morning. “Here, these are sure to brighten you up.” Kim looks down at the necklace and begins to tear up again. She whispers softly to herself, “At least he would have given me love…” “What, my dear?” Rhett inquires curiously. Kim looks up and fixes her eyes on his. “I said, ‘At least he would have given me love.’” “Haven’t I given you everything a woman could possibly want?” Rhett says in a frustrated tone. “I have everything but love, Rhett. Tom could have at least given me that.” Kim replies. “I…I do love yo—“ “No, Rhett. You don’t love me.” Kim shakes her head. “And you couldn’t. You’re too in love with things: jewelry, money, fame, popularity. Things that would have made me the happiest girl in the world 3 months ago. But I’ve changed; I no longer want any of that.” Rhett hesitates, trying to understand. “Then what do you want? I can buy it for you, Kim—whatever it is—“ Kim shushes him quietly and shakes her head. “You can’t buy me what I want, Rhett.” She smiles and closes her eyes, as if remembering it all. “I want a lush, green meadow with one single apple tree standing alone in a field of golden wheat. I want an old mutt who will follow me around the house when I’m lonesome and keep my feet warm when the country air blows in cool through the window. I want dirt and hay and mud on my boots when I walk into a sweet little country house with—with little kids running around and giggling, calling me mama.” Kim sighs then looks up at him, smiling faintly. “But above all, Rhett…I just want to be held in the arms of a man who loves me for who I am as a person; not by my social status; someone who knows what it's like to work hard for the things that he earns and gives me flowers instead of diamonds.” Rhett looks into her eyes in disbelief. “No one can give you that, Kim! You’re just a silly little girl with silly little dreams; it'll never amount to anything!” Kim shakes her head. “You're wrong." She says in a determined tone. "No one but Tom Henry can give me that dream.” Rhett laughs at the absurdity of what she’s saying, “But you told him you don’t want to see him anymore! If he’s anything of a man he wouldn’t take you ba—" Rhett stops mid-sentence and exhales – somewhat nervously, knowing he’s over-stepping a couple bounds. “Just take a nap and get some rest. You aren’t thinking clearly.” “Tom Henry is more of a man than you could ever hope to be, Mister Butler! I love Tom; and if he doesn’t love me back then I’ll settle for being a maid the rest of my life; but at least I’ll have half my dream!” “Don’t be ridiculous! You couldn’t last another 3 months on that ranch if your life depended on it!” Rhett laughs. “You underestimate me, Mister Butler. My life does depend on it; and I aim to see that my life doesn’t become some miserable little story in the New York Times, written in putrid lettering: ‘MISSUS Rhett Butler to be.’” Kim throws open her dresser drawer and digs around for some money. “What are you doing?” Rhett asks rudely. “I’m going back to Montana.” Kim says determined. “You really are an idiot, aren’t you?” Rhett laughs. Kim stops and looks him right in the eyes. “I’d only be an idiot if I chose to spend the rest of my life with a hideous, money-hungry monster such as yourself, Mister Butler; I’d fear for our children’s sanity.” Kim spits back, then walks down the stairs toward the front door. Mrs. Nelson walks in through the front door and gasps, surprised, when she sees Kim standing before her. “Oh, my dear, where are you going?” “I’m going back to Montana and I’m going to marry the man I love, mother.” Kim replies. Mrs. Nelson gets wide eyed and turns cold. “If you go back to that awful place I will banish you from the Nelson family inheritance just as I did your sister!” “We’ll be better for it, mother; I promise you.” Kim replies, closing the door behind her.

*At the train station Kim calls her sister to let her know she is headed back to the ranch. Cole walks in just as Angie hangs up the phone.*
Cole: Who was that? *he asks seeing the happy expression on Angie's face.*
Angie: It was Kim. She decided not to marry Rhett and she's on a train right now coming here.
Cole: Is she coming back for Tom?
Angie: Yeah. I told her she could stay with us as long as she wanted. I hope that's okay?
Cole: *hugging her* Of course it is sweetheart. I'm glad she's coming back. She didn't seem to be very happy there when we left and I know how much you've missed her.
Angie: Well you and she are the only family I have left and we're all she's got too.
Cole: Don't tell me your parents disowned her too?
Angie: That's what she said. It's really mostly mother though and I hope after a while she'll cool off and realize that we're both happier now. Maybe Dad can work on her too. After all he let you keep your job here.
Cole: I hope you're right. It's just foolish pride on her part and that's a silly reason to bust up a family. I've been saving up for a few years and one day we'll have a place that's all our own.
Angie: That will be wondeful.
Cole: So when is she getting in?
Angie: Tomorrow evening, she's coming right into the station in town and I told her we'd pick her up. She doesn't want Tom to know yet.
Cole: Okay, I won't say anything to him.
Angie: Cole, do you think they'll get together? *she said with a touch of sadness and optimism in her voice.*
Cole: I don't know honey. He hasn't said anything about her since we got back but I know it broke his heart when she turned him down.
Angie: They've just got to work it out. I know they love each other and I want them to be happy like us.
Cole: Maybe it will. There's nothing we can do about it though. We'll just have to see what happens.
*Angie kissed Cole goodbye as he headed out to finish up his chores. She stood by the sink washing the lunch dishes anxious for Kim to arrive the next day.*

“Sure, I can come down and help with the horses, Cole.” Tom says as he positions the phone to his right ear, throwing on his jacket. “Thanks Tom.” Cole says as he watches Angie walk up the stairs. Once she’s upstairs completely, Cole leans into the phone and says somewhat quietly. “I’m taking Angie out for a nice dinner tonight. It’s our 3 month anniversary and she doesn’t suspect a thing.” Cole smiles excitedly, taking another peak toward the stairs to make sure she isn’t hearing a word of this. “Angie not remembering her own anniversary?” Tom chuckles in disbelief. “She’s been so busy with thinking about Kim comin--” Cole stops himself immediately then shakes his head. “She’s just been so busy with thinking about Rhett and Kim’s marriage that she'd had nothin' else on her mind.” Cole clears his throat. There’s a silence on the other end of the phone as Tom tries not to dwell on Cole’s last comment; figuring those were Rhett’s first intentions. He takes a deep sigh. “Sure Cole, you two have fun. I’ll lock everything up and leave the key under the mat.” “Thanks Tom. Talk wi--” Before Cole can say another word, Tom hangs up. Cole hangs up and knits his brow together; feeling awful that he had to lie to his friend and only pour more salt on his wounds, but he knows it won’t be too much longer until Tom will, for the first time in his life, truly be happy. Angie walks down the stairs and wraps her arms around Cole’s waist. “Who was that?” She inquires, kissing his neck. Cole turns around and kisses her lips softly. “That was Tom. I called him over to help with the horses – it’s the only thing I could think of to get him over here to see Kim.” “Awwww, that’s sweet of you. I can’t wait to see her this afternoon.” Angie says as she reaches into the cupboard for a glass. “We’re not going to be here this afternoon.” Cole replies. Angie turns around and gives him an inquiring look. “What do you mean?” “I told Tom you and me would go out somewhere. So you get on your prettiest dress and meet me down her in 30 minutes, young lady!” Cole says with a smile on his face. Once Kim leaves the airport, she walks up to a payphone, in the front entrance of the airport, and reaches into her pocket for some change to call Cole and Angie. "Oh no." She mutters to herself as she begins to frantically search through her pockets. "I must have spent all my money on the plane ticket." She sighs and hangs up the phone, beginning to walk toward the ranch. She knows her way to the ranch, no problem, but the 125 mile ‘walk’ is gonna be a little tough. (lol, I was gonna say 18 miles but I read your ‘1 ½ hour drive toward the ranch’ and had to change it. ) A fourth of a mile later, her thoughts begin to change from her positive ‘dreamer’ attitude to thinking thoughts of "what if he doesn't want me back? What am I going to do then? I can't move back to New York and I don't have enough money to buy my own house. I couldn't possibly live with Cole and Angie for a year or two..." Rhett's comment, from yesterday, creeps in, and rings loudly in her ears: 'If he’s anything of a man he wouldn’t take you back.' She knows full-well Tom is everything of a man, but her goal is find the lost little boy deep inside his inmost being, and walk alongside him to help overcome his fear of loneliness, abandonment and fear. Pushed aside are the feelings of doubt and anxiety. She presses herself further -- to her first mile. "I can’t give up -- I won’t! I've overcome so much already, this should be the least of my worries. If he doesn't want me then I’ll…I’ll—I’ll sleep in the loft of Cole’s barn until I get a job and have enough money to pay for an apartment." A truck pulls up next to Kim and parks off to the side. Kim leans in to see the man sitting in the driver’s seat. “Can I give ya’ a lift somewheres?” The man asks. “Oh could you?” Kim says, sighing relief. “Sure, hop in!” Later that afternoon on the farm, Tom’s mind, once again, is lost in thought as he oils up the horse’s saddle. She isn’t the only woman in the world, you idiot. You’ll find another girl to fall in love with. There are plenty of girls here in Montana who would be interested to at least get to know you. He thinks to himself, yet replaying the memories of her over and over in his mind. Even if there weren’t, her mind’s been made up and she’s probably at the alter marryin’ that good fer’ nothin’ anyways. Face it, you weren’t good enough for her and that’s all there is to it. You’ve got a good thing goin’ right now; by the end of the season you’ll have enough money to buy your own cottage on a 100 acre lot. Sure, you won’t have anyone to share it with, but how important is it to love someone? You can live without it – you’ve done just fine without it for 26 years… The deeper his thoughts and self-doubts dig, the deeper the hole for his depression. Like struggling to keep your head above water, frantically searching for something to step on at the bottom – false hope. Living without love is like convincing yourself you can breathe underwater. Tom’s thoughts of Kim suddenly fade back into the corners of his mind as he hears the sound of a truck pulling into the driveway. Kim nods and smiles, “Thank you so much.” She says excitedly, her heart pounding faster than she can bear. The man nods back, politely, and waves her on as he drives off. Her eyes immediately fix on Tom’s truck; a bright smile plays across her lips. 'He’s here' she whispers to herself, biting her lower lip, trying to stop herself from getting too giddy. “Tom!” She calls out excitedly, looking around. The voice nearly sends Tom’s knees to buckling but he paces himself. He slowly walks in front of the barn door but the bright sun is beaming so brightly in his eyes, he’s hardly able to make out the identity of the person. He wipes his dirty hands on his pants then raises his hand to his eyes, checking to see if it’s really her. Kim looks toward the house then her eyes slowly move toward the tall figure of a strong and handsome man standing in the glistening sunlight -- more handsome than she's ever seen him before. Their eyes meet and their hearts suddenly begin to beat even faster. The emotion of knowing that Kim chose him instead of someone else – someone richer -- is so strong that tears begin to form in the corner of his eyes. She drops her bags and runs as fast as her feet can carry her, toward the arms of a man she’s longed to be held in; the warm embrace of a man who’s captured her heart and never let go. He quickly wipes the tears in his eyes and picks her up, spinning her around. She hugs him tightly, the scent of pine trees and cologne come flooding back into her memory, and she buries her head into his chest. “Oh Tom, I’m so sorry. I was a stupid girl; I’ve always loved you. Can you ever forgive me?” Tom releases himself from her grip and lifts her up, setting her down on top of a wooden table outside the barn. He places his finger underneath her chin and guides her gaze upon him. She searches his face inquiringly. The answer to her forgiveness is in her eyes as he gazes into them deeply and smiles, noticing the look in her eyes has returned. “You came back?” He gazes at her in disbelief, smiling. The look in his face is soft and sweet. “I had to come back; I love you, Tom. I never loved Rhett.” Tom smiles, lifting her off the table. He places his large hand around her neck gently, his long fingers wrapping around the back of her neck and his thumb pressing softly against the bottom of her chin. He pulls her in for a passionate kiss. All his worries and pain seems to deminish and melt away as she gently caresses his cheek and slightly brushes her fingertips behind his ears. He picks her up and brings her into the house.

That was awesome!!! *Cole and Angie arrived at the restaurant and were seated in a romantic booth hidden away near the back. It was a beautiful setting with a candle on the table giving everything a lovely, romantic glow. Angie tried to enjoy the evening but her mind kept wandering to Kim and Tom.* Cole: You're a million miles away. *he said taking her hand and gently kissing it.* Angie: I'm sorry. *she said as she caressed his cheek* This was very sweet of you but I'm just so anxious to know how Kim and Tom are doing. Cole: Do you wanna go back home? Angie: Can we? Cole: Sure, come on. *They drove up and saw that Tom's truck was still parked out front.* Angie: Well Tom's still here, maybe that's a good sign. *They walked into the house and called for them but there was no answer. They looked through the rooms but couldn't find them anywhere.* Cole: Maybe they're outside. *Walking out the back door they saw Tom and Kim sitting underneath the big oak tree in the yard. Tom was holding Kim tightly, almost like he was afraid to let her go, and they were smiling at each other and laughing.* Angie: Kim!! *she shouted with tears running down her cheeks* Kim: Angie! *she said as she managed to get loose from Tom and ran to her sister hugging her.* Angie: I'm so glad you're here. I guess everything worked out with Tom huh? *she asked smiling* Kim: Yeah *she said wiping the tears from her face*. I'm so glad to be home. *The next several minutes were spent with hugs all around and lots of happy tears.* Angie: Hey let's sit down and I want you to tell me everything that's happened the last couple weeks. *They sat down at the picnic table outside.* Kim: It was so awful there without you. I didn't have anybody to talk to and everything was just a mess. Angie: What about Rhett? Kim: Oh, he was just terrible. I mean he didn't treat me badly or anything but all he was interested in was dolling me up in fancy clothes and jewelry to show off to his friends like some sort of trophy girl. I didn't want to marry him but I was afraid that Tom wouldn't take me back. I should have come back with y'all that day after the ball. Tom: Hey better late than never *he said kissing her temple* *Cole started chuckling a little and soon it turned into full blown laughter.* Tom: What is it? *he said beginning to laugh himself* Cole: It's just so funny to think how much we all fought and drove each other crazy and now look at us. *he said continuing to laugh which soon caused them all to join in.* Kim: I can't believe I actually threatened to burn down the house! Angie: Oh don't forget my brilliant plan to run away which ended in a snakebite! *They laughed for quite a while and soon noticed that the sun had set behind them and the sky was filled with millions of brilliant stars.* Cole: It's gettin' late, we better be gettin' to bed. Angie: Yes sir *she said trying to be serious and giving him a salute.* *Cole picked her up and threw her over his shoulder carrying her inside as Angie laughed all the way.* Tom: I better be headin' home too. But I'll be back tomorrow. Kim: You better be *she said as she ran her fingers through his soft hair and kissed him goodnight.* Angie: You know, I started to fall in love with you that night we tried to runaway. *she said as she was snuggled close to Cole as they lay in bed.* Cole: You did? Angie: Yeah. I was so scared when that snake bit me and you knew exactly what to do and I realized you were different from all the men I had ever met before. They would have just panicked and probably left me there. When you carried me inside I didn't want you to let me go. Then it really hit me the next night when we were dancing. You remember? Cole: Yeah, oh man I did not want to dance with you. *he said laughing a little*. I noticed you kinda looking at me differently then. Angie: I know, I felt so embarassed. I just knew it was written all over my face that I was starting to like you. Cole: *kissing her forehead* You know the night we were out riding and I was pointing out the stars and stuff to you? *Angie nodded* Well, I wanted to kiss you so bad then but I didn't know if you'd want me to or not so I didn't. That's the night Carole broke up with me. When she told me that she could tell I liked you it hit me like a brick wall. I tried to deny it but she didn't believe me. I'm glad she didn't. Angie: I love you *she said smiling up at him* Cole: I love you too. *He took her little face in his big hands and kissed her sweetly.*

Tom releases Kim from his embrace and kisses her goodbye once more. "I don't want to leave you." He chuckles weakly, brushing a strand of hair from her eyes. "I don't want you to leave me." She smiles, hugging him close and burying her face into his chest. Tom lays his head on top of hers and kisses her forehead. He pauses then lifts his head, gazing into her eyes, getting an idea. "Come on." He says as he pulls her by the hand toward the barn. "What are you doing?" She giggles, following his large steps as best she can. He walks toward the stables and picks up a big, warm blanket. "Tom, what are y--" He climbs on top of a horse and holds out his hand, smiling. "Give me your hand." She takes it and gets lifted onto the horse, sitting behind him. She giggles to herself and wraps her arms tightly around his waist as they ride off into the wide-open prairie with the cool, crisp air blowing softly against their skin; the bright starlight leading their path. 10 minutes later Tom slows the horse down and dismounts. He gently lifts Kim off the horse and holds her in his arms. "Tom, what is your Aunt going to think?" Kim worries, hoping his Aunt won't get angry at her for distracting him from his job at her farm. “She’s gonna thank you for breakin' my stubborn streak and givin' me a reason to start livin' my life.” “Oh Tom.” Kim smiles and kisses him. Tom lays the blanket down under the apple tree and leans against it. He gently pulls her by the arm and cradles her into his strong arms. She nestles her small body next to him and uses his chest as a pillow. “I’ve never been happier than I am right now.” Kim says as she takes a deep sigh, inhaling the subtle aroma of the sweet wheat blowing in the gentle breeze. Tom laughs. Kim looks up and chuckles. “What?” “Nothin', it just ain't easy to believe that you’d actually choose to sleep on solid ground instead a big bed in a huge mansion.” Kim lays her hand over Tom’s cheek and guides his face to hers. She stares into his eyes and says with the most serious tone: “I’d rather sleep on the hard, dirty ground with you any night than sleep in a big, comfy bed alone. Tom, I love you, and I don’t care where you take me or where I’m laying my head – just so long as I’m with you, I’ll be the happiest girl in the entire world. And it'll be because of you -- not because of the things you've bought me." Tom searches her eyes, hoping desperately to find that she’s telling the truth. She smiles sweetly and throws her arms around his neck then gives him a peck on his nose. “I love you, Tom. And the only thing I’d ever expect from you is love, everything else is meaningless.” "So you don't want diamonds and pearls and all that flapdoodle?" He asks sincerely. "Like I said, I don't want anything else but love. That's why I left Rhett; He kept giving me things. He couldn't offer me what you could." Tom smiles and pulls her in for a passionate kiss. They both drift off to sleep in each others’ arms and dream of the rest of their lives together.
The next morning Kim blinks her eyes and yawns. She rolls over and looks at Tom, who’s still sleeping soundly. She studies his face and gently caresses his cheek with her index finger. He slowly wakes, squinting his eyes and yawning. “Good morning.” He smiles. “Good morning.” She replies, giggling at his mussed up morning hair. “What?” “Nothing.” She continues giggling. "You're just too cute." They both pack up and head on back to the house.

I love that you found a way to work in 'flapdoodle'!! That cracks me up everytime!!!
Angie: Do you think I should wake Kim up, breakfast is almost ready?
Cole: Aw you may as well let her sleep. Just put a plate aside for her.
*He had barely finished his sentence when Tom and Kim came in looking disheveled but very happy.*
Cole: Good morning *he said chuckling*
Tom: It's a great morning *he said with a big smile*
Angie: Alright lovebirds, you've probably got enough time to get cleaned up before breakfast is ready.
Kim: Okay we're going, we're going *she said jokingly as they both went to clean up*
Cole: I've never seen Tom this genuinely happy before.
Angie: *smiling* It's nice isn't it? Everybody happy and in love.
Cole: It sure is *he whispered in her ear as he stood next to her with his arm around her waist*.
*Kim came out of her room first to find Angie and Cole kissing in front of the stove.*
Kim: Hey I don't want a burned breakfast.
Angie: *pulling away from Cole* Oh goodness gracious!! *She took the food off the stove just in time.*
*After breakfast Kim went with Tom to help him with his chores for the day and Cole also went about his duties leaving Angie with the house to herself. She had been trying to learn how to sew and she sat down at the machine to work on a dress she had started a few days earlier. The phone rang and Angie ran to answer it hoping it was the call she had been expecting.*
Angie: Hello! Yes this is Mrs. Harden. Uh huh, really!! Thank you!
*She hung up the phone and ran outside to find Cole. She saw Kim and Tom in the stable but couldn't find him anywhere.*
Angie: Have y'all seen Cole?
Tom: Yeah he went out to the pasture to put out some hay.
Angie: Thanks! *She took off like a shot running towards the field*
Tom: I wonder what's up?
Kim: Maybe she just couldn't stand to be away from him *she said in a jokingly dramatic way*. I know how that feels. *She said as she stood behind Tom with her arms wrapped around his waist*
*Out in the field Cole saw Angie running towards him and his heartrate sped up thinking something might be wrong until she got closer and he saw the big smile on her face.*
Cole: What it is Angie?
Angie: I gotta tell you something. *she said grabbing his arms and trying to catch her breath.*
*He walked her over to the back of his truck and opened the tailgate. Then he picked her up and set her down on it.*
Cole: Now what is it that you had to run all the way out here for? *he said smiling as he stood in front of her with his hands on her hips*
Angie: *putting her hands on his shoulders* We're gonna have a baby! *she said still breathing hard*
Cole: A baby, really? *he said softly as he looked in her eyes*
Angie: Yeah, I just got a call from the doctor's office.
Cole: You little sneak, why didn't you tell me you thought you might be pregnant?
Angie: I didn't want to get your hopes up if it was nothing.
*He moved closer to her and kissed her then he picked her up and spun her around as they both laughed.*
Cole: Oh I'm sorry *he said putting her down*
Angie: What for?
Cole: Well I didn't mean to be so rough with ya.
Angie: I'm not made of glass, sweetie. It's okay.
*She reached up and put her hand on his cheek then stretched up on her tip toes and sweetly kissed him. He wrapped his arms around her and held her gently as a soft breeze blew by them.*
Cole: *still holding her close* Just when I think life couldn't get any better it does.

Cole and Angie drive up in the truck while Kim and Tom continue with their chores. Cole gets out of the truck and starts shouting excitedly: "YAWWWWHOO!" Tom and Kim walk out of the house, wondering what all the commotion is about. "What's wrong with him?" Tom asks, looking to Kim. Kim chuckles and shakes her head, "I have no idea, let's find out." Tom and Kim walk up to Cole. "What's with all the noise?" Kim asks. Angie gets out of the truck all smiles and shrieks. "You're gonna be an Auntie, Kim!!" Angie giggles. Kim looks to Angie, wide-eyed and gasps. "You mean--" "Yes!" Angie laughs. "Oh congratulations, sis!" Kim shouts excitedly, giving Angie a big hug. "Congrats, Angie." Tom smiles, nodding his head with a smile. "Thanks, Tom. I just found out this afternoon. I had to go tell Cole immediately!" Angie says with a bright smile; glowing radiantly. "Wow, this is so exciting; I can't believe it! We gotta go out an celebrate! What do ya'll think about that cute little restaurant uptown?" Kim asks, looking to everyone for an agreement. They all nod their head and smile. "Sounds like a great idea. I'll get your coat, Angie." Cole says sweetly as he gives Angie a gentle kiss on her lips. "All right; I'll be in the truck, Cole." Angie replies. "Tom, we'll meet you there and follow ya' in our truck. Sound good?" "Sounds perfect to me." Tom replies, taking Kim's hand and walking her to his truck.
Kim and Tom talk about the baby and Cole & Angie's happiness on the way to the restaurant. "Gee, didn't Angie just look beaming today?" Kim asks, almost in a far off daze; happy for Angie, yet hoping someday she'll be lucky enough to start a family and be half as happy as her sister and Cole are. Tom places his hand over Kim's and smiles, knowing what she's really asking. "Someday, you'll look just as beaming...with our child." Kim gazes at him and smiles proudly, holding back her tears of absolute joy. She fixes her eyes forward, unable to wipe that goofy smile off her face. He squeezes her hand gently and looks straight ahead as a goofy smile forms in the corner of his lips as well.

*On the ride home from the restaurnat Angie sits close to Cole and dreams about how wonderful their baby will be.*
Angie: It'll be so much fun getting all the baby stuff we'll need like a crib and a playpen, oh and cute little baby clothes.
*She looked to Cole but he seemed far away in thought.*
Angie: Did you hear me Cole?
Cole: Oh yeah we'll have to get baby clothes. I was just thinking that we haven't had a honeymoon yet.
Angie: Oh that's okay *she said resting her head on his shoulder*
Cole: Well I know a guy who has a cabin near Emerald Lake and we could go there for a few days if you want.
Angie: Really? That would be wonderful!! *she kissed him on cheek*
Cole: You'll love it. It's beautiful there and we can go swimming and fishing.
Angie: I don't know how to fish.
Cole: Don't worry, I'll teach ya.
*They all arrived back home and Kim put on a pot of coffee as they sat around the table.*
Cole: I'm gonna go call Bob right now about the cabin.
Kim: What's this about a cabin? *she asked Angie*
Angie: Cole and I are gonna go on our honeymoon to Emerald Lake.
Tom: Oh y'all will have a great time. It's one of the prettiest places in the whole state. It's not over run with people either like some of the other lakes.
Cole: Okay it's all set we can leave tomorrow.
Angie: Oh Kim come help me pack.
Cole: Do you think you and Kim can take care of things here while we're gone? *he said drinking his coffee*
Tom: Oh sure. Don't worry about it just have a good time.
Cole: You have a good time too. *he said smiling*
Tom: *blushing* It will be nice to have some time alone with Kim.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww! Upstairs, Kim helps Angie pack her belongings. The two giggle and chat about the memories of their past and the plans for their future. "Look at this!" Kim laughs, holding up a wrinkled ball dress, found balled-up underneath the bed. "Hah!" Angie laughs, taking the dress and looking it over. "Oh, remember when Carole gave us those overalls?" "The ones you're wearing?" Kim giggles. Angie nods fervently and lays back on the floor, laughing hysterically. "We thought they were only for hillbilly broads!" Angie and Kim continue laughing as tears roll down their cheeks. They both stop immediately and look to each other. "Angie, we're..." "Hillbilly broads!" Angie shrieks in a sarcastic disgust. The girls peak a smile and sit back up, calming down. "Well," Kim says as she continues folding Angie's plaid shirts. "we didn't know anything when we arrived. For goodness sakes, we thought Cole and Tom were demon-possessed and now look at us! You and Cole are going on your honeymoon and Tom and I...well..." Angie pats Kim's hand and smiles. "Don't worry, you and Tom will live happily ever after." Kim smiles back, "Just like you and Cole, I hope." she chuckles. Angie looks down, trying to hide her giddy smile. Yeah, just like me and Cole.Cole knocks on the door lightly. Kim and Angie perk. "Oh hello darling, I'm almost ready." Angie says as she zips up her suitcase. "I hope you don't mind stayin' here alone, Kim." Cole says, helping Angie up. Kim looks up at Cole, confused. "Alone?" She inquires. "I thought--" "Tom has to get going back to his Aunt's house; he told me so downstairs. I'm awfully sorry, Kim, but he should be back in a week or so." Cole replies. "A week?!" Kim gasps. "Awwww, but this was going to be our little vacation alone, too. What am I gonna do for a whole week alone?" "I'm sorry, Kim." Angie says, giving Kim a hug. "When Tom returns..." she looks to Cole for approval in his eyes. "You can use the house while Cole and I--" "Oh no, Angie; there would be no way I'd kick you out of your own house!" Kim says, taking a deep sigh. "I'll manage. It's only a week anyways." She musters up the strength to force a sincere smile. "Really, I'll be all right. You two have fun." Once Angie and Cole get into the truck and head out for the lake, Kim and Tom stand in the doorway of the front porch and wave goodbye. Moments later, after Cole and Angie have disappeared from sight, Tom places his hat on his head and pulls Kim in for a sweet goodbye kiss. He goes to head out when Kim places her hand on his arm. "Tom." she says lowly. Tom turns around and smiles weakly. "Yeah?" "Tom, I understand you have to go to your Aunts, but can't you stay here for just a little while?" She searches his eyes. He goes to speak up; she looks down, knowing his reply. "I know I have no right to ask you to ignore your Aunt; but is there any way I could go with you, or--" Tom kisses her lips softly and smiles, brushing his fingertips across her cheek. "I'll be back in a few days. You won't miss me much, will ya'?" He teases. Kim hugs him tight, trying to push aside her selfishness and force a smile. "Not much, I won't." She pulls away and giggles. "Finally I'll have some peace and quiet without any men!" She replies, teasingly; chuckling away her sadness. He laughs then kisses her forehead and walks out the front door, into his truck. Kim stands in the doorway and waves him goodbye. He waves back and drives off down the road.
