The next evening, while James is away on an important military meeting a couple miles away, Kim spends her time singing and humming to herself as she tidies his barracks and makes the place look inviting -- giving it a home-ish feel. She looks at the small cot which he has to sleep on and shakes her head disapprovingly. She walks out onto the grassy land and looks around at a few other tents nearby. The base is getting darker, almost past 9. She finds a tent that seems to be unoccupied and empty. She sneaks in and fixes her eyes on another small cot. A sly smirk plays across her lips as an idea forms in her mind. After wheeling it into James' tent, she pushes it near his cot and tilts her head. She moves the one cot closer to James' to make one large bed the smiles. She looks around to see if she can occupy her time with anything else; finding nothing she decides to rest herself for a couple minutes. Looking at her watch she leans her head back. He should be home any minute. she thinks to herself, letting out an exhausted sigh. She hears the sound of footsteps approaching and jumps to her feet quickly, fluffing the ends of her hair and dusting off her dress. She quickly leans over and lights a match to a candle near his bed. He walks into the room but her smile quickly vanishes at the sight of a dark stranger. She squints to see his face. "Who are you?" Kim asks rather loudly, to draw any passer byers' attention. The candle gets blown out by a strong gust of icy cold wind, sending multiple layers of goosebumps down her arms. "Do you know James Braydon?" the shady man asks in a sinister voice. "Y-yes. He's--" she clears her throat, backing up as the man begins to walk toward her. "He's my husband." she says softly, feeling her hand across the night stand for an object to throw in hopes to escape. "Then you're just the person I need." the man sneers, grabbing her arm and thrusting a knife to her neck. She quickly drops her arms from the table and is now completely at his mercy. He leads her to the tent opening and quickly removes the knife from her throat and places it behind her back. "Move." the man whispers in her ear, with breath the stench of a sewer hole. She clenches her teeth and winces from the sharp pain that's penetrating her skin at the small of her back. A black mob car drives up and the kidnapper throws Kim in forcefully then looks around to make sure no one is witnessing any of this. Once Kim is inside the car, she leans over without wasting any time and tries to open the other side of the door in desperation and panic. The man sits down next to her and slams his door. Kim stops immediately and looks to him with fear and horror. "Drive, Rick" the man commands, looking to the driver then fixing his evil eyes onto Kim. "What do you want?" she trembles in terror, but tries to keep herself calm and cool. "Your husband has some information that I need; and seeing as you're married to him...I think you could supply that." he leans into her as the moonlight casts itself upon his face and unveils the hideousness of who she's really dealing with. "He doesn't speak with me about his work." She stops short of becoming too bold when she sees the deep scar that traces from his right eyeball to the ball of his chin. He's somewhat of a tall man, but not nearly as tall as James; perhaps only 5'12. His eyes are deep brown with a hue of black around the edges. His hands are rough and callous and his hair is as black as the heart of satan (gosh, I'm sorry, that sounds awful! Oh well, he's a nasty little man, he deserves it.) He leans back into his seat and smirks, lighting a cigarette. Kim turns her gaze out the window and focuses on the bright moon above. Lord please, have James to find me; and please keep me safe...
Once James arrives "home" he lays his military suit jacket down on a ragged old chair and looks around to find the place looking beautiful. "A woman's touch...I knew that's what this place needed." he chuckles, talking aloud, as if speaking to her in the room. He steps deeper into the tent and pulls on a string which holds a large sheet, making for a home-made changing room; he finds no one. His brows knit together and he shakes his head confused. "Where could she be?" He steps out into the grassy area of the base and walks up to a sergeant. "Sergeant Phillips," he says, being saluted by an over enthusiastic, and rather loud, private. "Sir, yes sir?!" the man screams at attention. "Have you seen my wif--Mrs. Braydon?" The man replies: "Sir, I just got back a few minutes ago, the same time as you, sir!" James salutes and sends the man on his way. James walks into the barracks and searches the place over. After sloppily uncovering a few pieces of paper, to see if she had written any kind of note on her whereabouts, he sits down at his bed and takes a deep sigh. His eyes draw attention on an ink stain on the floor next to his feet, with the cap undone. He looks down and reaches for it, placing the cap back on then setting it on the nightstand. Once he does this, he sees a note with childlike handwriting that seems to, almost, be backwards. The note reads "help." Immediately James goes to the Captain in second command's (a rank lower than him) headquarters a few tents over and enters without knocking. The Captain stands up, caught off guard reading a newspaper. "James--" the man goes to speak but James cuts him off with an urgent message. "My wife's missing, Pete." James says in a panic. "Missing?" the man repeats in a questioning tone. "Yes! I have to go find her!" James says urgently. "Calm down, James, calm down." he says to James in a soothing manner. "Calm down? Pete, my wife is missing." James says breathily, trying to keep his cool. "I've got to go find her." James says, peering out of the crack in the door. "When are you leaving?" the man asks. "Now." James replies without hesitation. "But if you leave now then that's desertion." "I'm going anyway." James insists. "You'll get caught. You can't do this, James." the man pleads. "Yes, I must. What does this war mean to me anymore? What does anything mean but finding her?" The man begins to talk James out of it once more but James interrupts, "Can I depend on you, Pete?" "Sure James, but if they ask me what I--" "Say anything you like." James gives Pete a hug and shakes his hand, then sneaks out the back to begin his search.

Sorry it took me so long today. I had some errands to run and then I got caught up working on my project to put a new score with Doomsday. It's going pretty good so far as I've got about 1/3 of it done (through the haystack scene).
Angie went back to work and each time she began to miss Jim she thought of their beautiful days together and felt better. At night when she was sleeping alone she imagined he was holding her in his arms and sometimes it seemed so vivid she thought he was really there. About a week passed and she hadn't received a letter from Jim. She was worried but she also knew how unreliable the mail could be, they were in a war torn country after all and not back home in the States. The troops were moving on past Troyes so the nurses were no longer needed. Angie was part of the first group sent back to their original post in Loire. She was happy to go because she would be reunited with her sisters if they were still stationed there. She hadn't heard from either one of them since she left for Troyes and she was anxious to see them and tell them about her marriage. After packing up the few things she had brought and taking one last look at the little house where she and Jim had spent their honeymoon she made her way to the train station and found her seat near the rear of one of the cars. It was dark out and the car was empty. Someone had left a two day old paper on the table in front of her seat and as the train began to slowly move forward she picked it up and thumbed through it. She came to a page that had a list of American soldiers recently killed in action. When she saw his name she dropped the paper and it hit the edge of the table and then fell to the floor as if in slow motion. She sat stunned for a moment and then picked the paper back up and read it again.
Killed in Action - France
Lt. Mark Enloe - 23rd Infantry Division Pfc. Sam Allen - 23rd Infantry Division Cpt. Jim Baker - 82nd Engineering Division
When she saw his name was indeed there a well opened inside of her and the tears flowed down her cheeks and dropped onto the paper smearing the ink. She cried herself to sleep as the train sped toward the base at Loire. She woke the next morning as they were pulling into the station. Moving like a zombie she made her way to her apartment and found it empty. In a daze she unpacked then showered and went to the hospital to let them know she had made it back. She was put to work right away. She didn't see her sisters amongst the nurses on duty and wondered where they were. She was about to take a break and ask the head nurse if she knew their whereabouts when she heard two other nurses talking.
Nurse #1: So you were working at the officer's hospital in Nice huh? I bet it's beautiful there this time of year.
Nurse #2: Oh it was so nice and let me tell you the scenery wasn't the only beautiful thing there *she said giggling*.
Nurse #1: Oh did you meet any cute officers in need of some tender loving care?
Nurse #2: I sure did. There was one in particular. I don't think I've ever seen a more handsome man in my whole life. His leg was hurt so I never saw him standing up but he had to be well over six feet tall. He had dark brown hair, the cutest pouty lips, oh and the most gorgeous blue eyes you will ever see.
Nurse #1: Well did anything happen, are you gonna see him again or write to him?
Nurse #2: No he said he was married. I'm telling you all the good ones are already taken.
*Angie's heart began to beat faster when she heard their conversation. She knew it was a long shot but that description fit Jim to a tee.*
Angie: Excuse me, I heard you talking about the cute officer you met in Nice. Do you remember his name?
Nurse #2: Sure I do. It was Jim Baker, he was a captain I think.
*Angie dropped the rolls of gauze she was holding and and walked past the two nurses who just looked at her like she was crazy. She went back to her apartment without saying a word to anyone and packed all her things as quickly as she could. She knew it might be a different Jim Baker since that wasn't an unusual name but she had to go and see for herself it was indeed her husband. Wearing civillian clothes she bought a train ticket to Nice and when the train arrived she got on and prayed that she would find her husband once they reached their destination.*

Once the kidnappers arrive at their destination, about 45 minutes from departing, the head man, who's name Kim has come to find out is Frank (or so affectionately referred to as 'Frankie') grabs her by the hair and pulls her out of the car and throws her to the ground by his feet. Out of pain and fear, Kim does what he says in hopes he'll notice this and go easy on her -- not in her wildest dreams; he only treats her worse. He slams the car door and grabs her by the arm gruffly, pulling her toward the run-down hideout. Once inside, he turns on the lights and his accomplice Rick walks in from behind them and locks the door. "Make yourself at home." Frank laughs evilly; the joke being anything but humorous, she slowly walks toward a tattered old couch and sits down gently. A few hours later Kim looks down at her watch but notices she isn't wearing the one she usually has on. "What--" she clears her throat and continues in a low and frightened voice, "what time is--" in a loud and deep voice, the man interrupts, "speak up!" Kim jumps and immediately repeats herself in a louder tone, "I-I said 'what time is it?'" The man walks over to her and glares at her face without so much as a hesitation, he answers, "time for you to answer some questions." Kim shakes her head and repeats what she's been pleading to him in the car, "I don't know anything; my husband doesn't talk about business after work hours." The man grabs her by the hair once more and pulls her up to his face; the stench is, still, horrendously awful -- almost making her want to gag. "Don't lie to me. I hate being lied to." Kim goes to speak up but the man releases her from his firm grasp and pushes her back into the couch. Frank paces for a few minutes then walks into the kitchen, in view of where Kim is sitting, and leans into Rick. The two share a few words then Frank looks back to Kim with an evil smirk. Kim leans back and tries to look as though she didn't see the two speaking to one another. Rick walks into the living room and gets in her face, "Frankie says you're getting on his last reserved nerve. You better start talking, lady, or I promise...you will regret it." he says in a deep gangster/Italian accent. "He can't do anything to me anymore; I already know he wants answers, but I don't have any; and I can't lie to you. I truthfully know nothing!" Kim pleads once more. "He won't do anything to you...but I will." Rick says in a 'I kill children for fun' kind of tone, smirking.

After travelling on the train most of the day Angie arrived in Nice early that evening. She was very tired after having travelled all day the day before and then again today on top of the emotional strain she was under. As she was walking through the train station she dropped one of her bags and tripped over it. She sat on the cold concrete floor with her bags strewn around her and began to cry a little.
Man: Etes-vous bien le coup manqué?
Angie: I don't speak French.
Man: I said are you alright Miss?
*Angie looked up to see a kindly older man looking at her quite pitifully.*
Angie: Yes I'm okay.
Man: You don't seem okay, you've been crying. *He helped her up from the ground.* I don't mean to pry into your business but is there something I can help you with?
Angie: I'm here trying to find my husband. He's an American soldier and I think he's at the Offiicer's hospital.
Man: Oh he has been hurt?
Angie: Yes I think so and I have to get the hospital.
Man: Any cab driver can take you there Madame. Here *he said as he picked up her bags* I'll walk you to the taxi stand. Do you have a place to stay?
Angie: No I hadn't even thought about that.
Man: Well my brother and his wife run a little bed and breakfast here. I'll take you there.
Angie: That's very nice of you Mr.
Man: Mr. Bourgeuois *and he tipped his hat*.
Angie: Thank you Mr. Bourgeuois but you don't have to go to all that trouble for me.
Mr. Bourgeuois: Your husband and other's like him are here fighting for my country. It's the least I can do to try and repay them.
*They got in the taxi and within a few minutes they pulled up to a charming old house with a lovely flower garden out front. Mr. Bourgeuois paid the driver and then they walked inside to find a lovely, older woman sitting behind the check in desk.*
Mrs. Bourgeuois: Bonjour Maurice!
Mr. Bourgeuois: Bonjour Arianne! (I'm watching Love in the Afternoon right now - ha!). Bonjour Madamoiselle!
Maurice: Oh it's Madame. Her husband is an officer and he's here at the soldier's hospital and she needs a room.
Arianne: Oh I'm so sorry Madame....
Angie: It's Mrs. Baker. *That was the first time she had called herself Mrs. Baker and she liked the sound of it.*
Arianne: Well if you'll just sign in I'll show you to your room.
Maurice: I better get home, my wife if expecting me.
Angie: *hugging him* Thank you. I really appreciate your help and your kindness.
Maurice: It was my pleasure Madame Baker.
*After signing in Arianne showed Angie to her room upstairs. She had gotten used to the dreary apartment she had shared with her sisters and this room was a welcome change. It had white wallpaper with small pink flowers and a beautiful four poster bed with a sheer white canopy and a lovely pink bedspread.*
Angie: It's beautiful!!
Arianne: I'm glad you like it. I'll leave you to rest. You must be tired after coming all the way from America.
Angie: Oh no I've been in France for a while. I was a nurse's aide at one of the Army bases. I came here though when I found out my husband had been hurt. *She didn't want to tell her he might be dead b/c she just couldn't bring herself to say it out loud.* I actually met him here.
Arianne: Have you been married long?
Angie: Just over a week.
Arianne: A week!! Oh then I definitely must go. You must be anxious to see him *she said smiling and she left the room*.
*Angie changed into a pretty blouse and skirt and fixed her hair and makeup. Then she got a cab to take her to the hospital. Her heart beat faster as they got closer.*

Hours later, well into the early morning at the kidnappers hide-out, Rick looks over to Frank, who seems to look as though he's given up on the interrogation a couple hours ago, takes a deep sigh and raises his hand to tell Rick to stop. With red, swollen eyes from the intense sobbing and blood dripping from Kim's torn lip from the beatings, she lowers her head and wipes her cheeks with her shoulder as her hands are tied behind her back with frayed rope, rubbing harshly against her soft skin. "She isn't talkin', boss, what do we do now?" Rick asks, rubbing his bruised fist from hitting her so hard. Frank looks at her and smiles evilly, "now we find Mr. Braydon himself and see if he can fill us in on some important military information." Kim looks up and squirms in her seat, trying to break free, "you can't! He doesn't know anything about that traitor Bill Marks, and he certainly wasn't in on it!" Not even knowing who Bill Marks is, Kim only knows what Frank and Rick tell her and tries to make sense of this whole situation. Frank draws his hand back and slaps her across the face then hesitates and takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "I never did like your husband; he's done nothing but hurt this country -- my country -- and I would like nothing more than to see him dead." "He's fighting for your country! He isn't trying to hurt your people! How do you even know he was a part of that?" Kim questions. "Because I saw him!" Frank snaps back. "When?" Kim asks sharply. "A week ago, outside the head quarters of general Marks' office. They were discussing a few things then I saw Marks give your husband, Captain James Braydon, a box. The two shook hands with smiles then left." Frank shakes his head, disgusted, and walks toward a cabinet and pulls out a large box. Kim goes to ask if that's the box he saw in the hands of James but Frank replies, "No, these are photos of that scene." He pulls out a few images and hands them to Kim. Her arms are still bound but Frank snaps his fingers and Rick immediately begins to untie her. Once untied, Kim takes them in hand and begins to sift through them carefully, trying to wrack her brain to see if she may have remembered seeing them in James' hands. She shakes her head, "I'm sorry but I've never seen that box before." Frank grabs the images from her angrily and throws them in the box. "Just because you have not seen that box does not mean that I'm lying." Kim goes to interrupt but Frank snaps back, "Rick, put her to bed." Rick socks Kim harder than he had before and she passes out. (Rick doesn't believe in bed time stories and warm glasses of milk ).

Oh Kim that's terrible! Just let me and Theresa at 'em, we'll take those bad guys out - ha!
Angie's cab pulled up to the Officer's hospital which was in a big, beautiful hotel. She walked in trying to stay calm but she was breathing so hard that she was afraid she wouldn't be able to speak. She saw an area set up with a desk and a nurse behind it so she walked over to her.
Nurse: Hello miss.
Angie: Hello I think my husband might be a patient here. *Her voice cracked as she spoke*.
Nurse: Alright what's his name?
Angie: Captain Jim Baker.
Nurse: If you'll wait here I'll see what I can find out. You can sit over there. *She pointed to some chairs a few feet away and Angie sat down. The nurse returned a few minutes later but it seemed like she was gone for hours.*
Nurse: Yes we have a Capt. Jim Baker here. He just arrived a couple days ago.
Angie: Is he alright? *she asked almost out of breath.*
Nurse: *looking down at the chart she was holding* He had a slight concussion and a fracture in his lower right leg but he'll be okay.
Angie: May I see him, please?
Nurse: Well we don't really have visiting hours here ma'am. I mean most of these men's wives are back home in the U.S.
Angie: I was a volunteer nurses's aide further south so I've been here for a while. I saw his name in the paper listed as killed in action but then I heard from another nurse who had been here that he was here. Please you've got to let me see him so I know it's him and that he's alive.
Nurse: Alright Mrs. Baker *she said as she put her hand on Angie's shoulder*. I'll take you to him but you can't stay very long because he needs lots of rest.
Angie: Thank you.
*They walked up two flights of ornate marble stairs with beautiful paintings hanging on the walls.*
Nurse: Right now he's in a private room since he's recovering from a head injury, that way he gets plenty of rest. Here we are Mrs. Baker, again please don't stay too long.
Angie: I won't, thank you.
*Angie slowly opened the door and saw Jim lying on the bed asleep. His head was bandaged and his leg was in a cast propped up on some pillows. For a minute she just stood there as the relief that he was alive and okay washed over her. She walked over to him and sat down on a little stool next to his bed. He was sleeping so peacefully and she didn't want to wake him but she couldn't help herself and she leaned over and gently kissed him on the cheek. He slowly woke up and saw her face. When he said her name and smiled she couldn't hold it in anymore and she began to cry quite hard.*
Jim: *putting his hands on her face* Oh honey please don't cry, I'm alright.
Angie: *putting her hands on his* I can't help it Jim. I thought you were dead.
Jim: Dead?! Didn't you get my letter, isn't that why you're here?
Angie: No, I saw your name in the paper listed as KIA when I was on the train back to the base at Loire two days ago. Once I got to the hospital I heard a nurse talking who had been stationed here and she said she met a tall, handsome soldier named Jim Baker and that he was married. I hoped it was you and I got on the train here right then.
Jim: Oh sweetheart, I'm so sorry you had to be worried like that.
*He pulled her head down to his chest and wrapped his arms around her.*
Angie: It doesn't matter now because you're alright. *She raised her head up to look into his lovely eyes*. I love you so much Jim.
Jim: I love you too.
*She kissed him very sweetly and held his hands.*
Angie: The nurse told me not to stay too long and she was very nice to let me come see you at all so I better go.
Jim: Do you have a place to stay?
Angie: Yes, it's a beautiful little bed and breakfast, you'd like it. Of course it's not as fancy as this hotel.
Jim: Oh this is too nice for me, I'd much rather be there with you. Can you come back tomorrow?
Angie: You know I will, if they'll let me.
*She kissed him again and as much as she hated to leave she knew she must. She saw the nurse again as she was nearing the door and the nurse called out to her.*
Nurse: Mrs. Baker! Was it your husband?
Angie: Yes, it was. Thank you so much for letting me see him.
Nurse: Oh that's okay. Didn't you say you had been a nurse's aide?
Angie: Yes.
Nurse: We could use your help if you'd like to come and take care of your husband. He'll need quite a bit of attention for another few days at least and then he'll need help learning to walk with a cane until his cast comes off.
Angie: Really? Of course I'll be here tomorrow morning!! Thank you!!!

yeah kim, me and angie ought to give them a good slapping!! hold on ill get out my paint gun(heehee).
sam: go in the tunnel further in, so they cant see your face
theresa: okay darling
sam peaks around the corner, and sees a german hiding in the bushes, so he aimes at the man with his steady arm, and shoots. his target was acquired and the german is now dead.
sam is still on the lookout with other soldiers on the field for anything unusual when theresa sees out the other end of the tunnel, a man's shadow pointing his gun at sam. she is in a darkened part of the tunnel so he cant see her. she picks up the gun sam gave her and points it toward the end waiting for the man to appear. when she sees the first sight of him, she shuts her eyes not believing she can do it, and pulls the trigger. sam turns around to see what is going on and sees theresa holding the gun with her eyes shut still and he sees the man topple over dead.
sam: you can open your eyes now darling
theresa: is he......
sam: yes
theresa leans back against the cold metal wall of the tunnel and shuts her eyes tight,b/c she just shot a man, which she had never done before
theresa: i had to do it sam, he was going to shoot you
sam: if we live through this, remind me to thank you?
theresa: *looks up to him* what do you mean if?
sam chuckles
sam: oh you know we will live through this darling, no need to worry. they kiss in the tunnel.

James jumps down from the truck and slams the door. "Thanks mister!" he nods as the man drives away. As he looks around, he finds nothing in the small town but an abandoned gas station and a run-down coffee shop. It's mid-afternoon and he's gotten little sleep and had nothing to eat since he left, so he decides to walk in. "Can I help you?" a thick southern accented voice calls out from behind the cash register. James walks up to the stool and sits down. "Can I get a coffee, please?" James replies in a tired tone. "Sure," the cashier says, looking James up and down. "You're not from around here, are ya'?" he adds, pouring the hot coffee into a small cup. The man passes the cup to James and takes a couple cream and sugar packets off the shelf and places them on the coffee plate. James takes a slow sip of the coffee and draws back, positioning himself on the chair. "No, I'm looking for my wife." he says in somewhat of a daze, taking another sip of the coffee. "Oh" the man raises his head in a slight nod. "She run out on ya'?" he chuckles. "No," James says sharply, fixing his eyes directly on the man. "She was kidnapped." The man's eyes widen and he places his palms on the table, leaning forward. "Ya' don't say. How long she been missing?" the man inquires. "It'll be two days tonight." James replies. The man nods again, and goes to ask another question when James beats him to it, "So I take it you're not from around here either?" "How'd you guess?" the man asks. "Your accent." James replies, "You're from South Carolina?" "Why sure I am!" the man laughs. He stops and raises a brow, repeating himsef, "How'd you guess?" "This is Italy...and you have a Southern accent." James says in an obvious tone. The man starts laughing hysterically, slapping his knee. "Well I'll be darned! You're right!" he continues to laugh. James sits silently and sips his coffee. The man begins to calm down a bit and clears his throat, "So...where ya' heading to after this?" James stares at his coffee cup and slowly traces his thumb across the design, "I don't know. I don't think I'll ever be able to find her. I have no clues; and no idea that she could even be alive anymore!" James takes a deep sigh and lowers his head, laying it on his arm ontop the table. The man shakes his head, "Oh, don't say that, stranger; I'm sure she's fine. Do you know who could have done it?" James looks up and rubs the back of his neck, shaking his head, "No, that's why I've been wandering around for two days aimlessly, I don't know where to find her." James reaches into his pocket and lays down a couple nickels, downing the rest of his coffee. "Maybe you should hire the military." the man jokes. As James begins to walk out the door he stops, then scoffs, "not even the best trained soldier from the military could find her." He winces painfully, knowing that 'soldier' is him, then walks out of the shop and continues on his way to find his wife.
As Kim begins to wake slowly from her "sleep", she looks around to find no one in the room watching her like a hawk. She raises her head a little higher but squints her eyes at the bright sun which is seeping in through the window. As she goes to rub her eyes she lets out a faint gasp when she realizes her hands are untied and free. Raising her head once more, she looks out the window to find a car parked outside, running. She listens carefully to make sure the men aren't coming then quickly makes her way to the door and grabs the gun which is laying on the table on her way out. She swings the door open and runs as fast as her legs can carry her toward the car. Once she opens the passenger side, she yells to the driver, "Drive, please!" The man looks at her then down at the gun terrified. He presses his foot to the gas and they speed off. After a few moments of silence, Kim drops the gun to the floor of the car and puts her head in her hands, sobbing and shaking. "What do you want from me, lady?" the driver asks. "I'm sorry." her voice cracks. "I was kidnapped last night and I didn't know how to get out, so when I saw your car I took their gun and jumped in; I'm so sorry." The man looks at her with sympathy, "Don't be sorry, miss. It's completely understandable." a strange look of disbelief plays across his face when he says the word 'understandable'. He clears his throat and glances at her, "where do you want me to drop you off?" Kim wipes her eyes and tries to calm herself, "what town is-- how far are we from Milan?" The man replies, "We're about 50 miles from Milan; this is Piacenza." Kim fixes her eyes out the window; not looking at anything in particular, just waiting with anticipation in the moment she can leap into her husband's arms, and finally become safe from this horrible nightmare.

Back in her room, Angie got a good night's sleep for the first time in a little over a week knowing that Jim was safe and out of harm's way. The next morning she got dressed in her nurse's uniform and went downstairs to have a quick breakfast.
Arianne: Good morning Mrs. Baker!
Angie: Good morning and please call me Angie.
Arianne: Alright Angie, did you see your husband yesterday?
Angie: Yes I did. He has a broken leg and a slight concussion but they say he'll completely recover.
Arianne: Oh that's wonderful!! I'd introduce you to my husband but he's away visiting an old friend who has taken ill.
Angie: Oh I hope they will be alright.
Arianne: Thank you, he should be. Are you going to be a nurse at the hospital? *she asked seeing her uniform.*
Angie: Yes, one of the nurse's I talked with last night said I could come and help take care of Jim.
*After finishing her breakfast she walked outside and it was such a lovely morning she decided to walk to the hospital which wasn't very far away. It was hard to believe that just two days ago she was heartbroken thinking her love had been killed and now here she was in a beautiful city far away from the fighting on a lovely spring day about to see her husband without having to sneak around. She checked in at the nurse's station and then went to the kitchen to get his breakfast and headed up to his room. The door was open and so was the window and the sweet smell of flowers from the garden below filled the room. Jim was already awake and he was surprised to see Angie coming in with a tray.*
Jim: *smiling* You don't look like my regular nurse.
Angie: She's been reassigned and I'll be taking care of you from now on. I hope that's okay.
Jim: It sure is, you're much prettier than her. *He reached out to take her hand after she set down the tray and gently kissed it*.
Angie: Now Captain, I'm a happily married woman.
Jim: I don't think your husband would mind if you gave a tired, wounded soldier just one little kiss to make him feel better.
Angie: Oh you don't. That's good because there's a man in the next room that I'm just dying to smooch. *She pretended to walk towards the door and he grabbed her hand.*
Jim: Now that's not funny.
Angie: Oh come on, it's just a little bit funny. *She bent down and kissed him.*
Jim: So are you really gonna take care of me?
Angie: Yep, the nurse I talked to last night said I could so here I am. Now you need to eat your breakfast. *She lifted the lid on the tray to see a bowl of hot oatmeal, a banana, a plate of toast and fresh jam*. Wow this actually looks good for Army hospital food!
Jim: They treat us pretty good here, maybe because we're all officers, I don't know.
Angie: So what happened to you?
Jim: *eating his oatmeal* We had just finished a bridge and it was bombed. I don't really remember anything else but they did take some shrapnel out of my leg. Some other guys weren't so lucky.
Angie: I'm so glad you're okay *she said as she brushed his hair back from his forehead*. They took the bandage off your head so it must be getting better.
Jim: Yeah they did that earlier this morning. I still get kinda woozy though when I have to get up.
*He finished eating and she moved the tray and then sat down next to him on his bed. He had his arms around her waist and she was running her fingers through his hair.*
Jim: *closing his eyes* Why does it feel so good when someone else messes with your hair?
Angie: *giggling* I don't know.
*She kissed his forehead just as another nurse walked by.*
Nurse: Excuse me miss! *she said rather loudly* Don't you have other patients you need to attend to? Also there is no fraternization allowed with the officers.
Angie: *standing up* Well this particular officer is my husband and I'm here to look after him. I don't mind helping with other patient's too but so far he's the only one I've been told to help.
Nurse: Oh well I guess that's alright then. We've had a problem with some nurse's flirting a little too much with the patients. We're not too busy right now so I think it will be alright if you just stay with him. *Leaning over to Angie and whispering* Try not to be too um, affectionate though ma'am. He needs to take it easy.
Angie: *blushing* Oh, sure I understand.

sam pauses after kissing her
theresa: what is it sam?
sam: i have an idea....follow me
they quietly crawl out of the tunnel with gary's teeth clinching once again from the pain of crawling on his bad leg and they quickly go behind the rock they ran to in the first place. sam motioned to the other soldiers hiding in the bushes a few yards away from them. they saw him and came to theresa and sam with all their weapons and whispered to each other while guns are still going off around them everywhere.
sam: we need to capture their general
theresa: general speer?
sam: is that his name?
theresa: well you dont think i spent all that time in that aweful place without even catching his name
sam:you attract the nicest people darling
theresa: oh but dont i sam?
sam: well you are the most beautiful--*looking into her eyes, but is cut off*
soldier: hello, can we concentrate on the attack?
sam: oh sorry*theresa keeps in her laughing*well lets go.
they all hurry into the bushes quietly going behind the enemy lines loaded with thier guns and theresa in the middle of the soldiers holding onto sam.
they see a german soldier off in the distance in a bush and get theresa to appeal to him.
theresa: *in german* hello handsome*she says in her low breathy voice summoning him to come to her*
he turns around and cant resist following her into the trap. they take a hold of him and he struggles but has no chance compared to the amount of soldiers holding him down and tying him up.
theresa: he fell for the oldest trick in the book
sam chuckles and kisses her on the forehead
they all walk for miles and miles with theresa and sam guiding them to the german headquarters.
it is sunset now and they are in the bushes at the front of the building where sam hid to get theresa the first time. now there are four guards at the door instead of two.
theresa: we can take 'em riht guys, they are falling asleep?
soldier#1: we do out number them, try that luring thing you did back there to the german soldier.
theresa: i did that last time on the guards when i was here last, they would be suspecting that now
sam: okay, we need to split up and attack them all at once with each of us at different locations
sam: you stay here in the bushes theresa, i cant have you getting more hurt
theresa:alright
one soldier sneaks behind the guards next to the building, another goes to the other side of the building, and the remaining four of them just pop out of the bushes like daisies and head toward the guards.
the guards start to panick and pull out their guns, but the soldiers pull out their weapons and now thare is a weapon up in everyone's face.
sam: alright, lets all put our weapons down and negotiate this whole thing out
meanwhile the soldiers hiding next to the building aree waiting for the opportune moment to come out and attack the guards.
they all put their guns down, but one of the guards throws a punch at sam and knocks him down. now everyone is rumbling and sam gets up and throws a punch back at the guard who punched him. then the guard knocks him out again, but sam gets up again. theresa cant stand anymore and pops up, grabs a large tree branch, and runs to that guard. she hits the guard in the stomach with the large tree branch totally knocking him out.
sam is standing on the side smkiling at theresa as the soldiers come jump on the rest of the guards and three minutes later every guard is on the ground totally out of it.

Kim wakes to the sound of the car door slam. She rubs her eyes and looks out the window. It's early evening and the driver is speaking with a soldier. She looks as her watch: 6:15. "He must have gotten lost" she chuckles to herself. The surroundings seem familiar as a bright smile plays across her lips and she quickly opens the door and makes her way to James' tent. "James!" she shrieks excitedly. No answer. She scans the tent then walks back out to the car. "Excuse me," she says chipperly to the soldier. "Have you seen Captain James Braydon?" The soldier looks to her confused, "No, I'm sorry ma'am; the company shipped out about an hour ago." Kim's excitement level drops about a hundred and her bright smile quickly fades. "Where did he get shipped to?" she says hesitantly, trying to keep from collapsing. "I don't rightly know, ma'am, as I just got here myself." the soldier replies, calm and cool which is making Kim angry. "Why don't you know where he is? Aren't you a soldier in this war, too? Why was my husband shipped off and you weren't?" Kim spits out angrily, following one sharp question after another. The man looks to the driver confused. The driver takes Kim by the shoulders and directs her to a chair sitting outside one of the tents. She sits down and fixes her eyes to the ground, darting them about and trying to make sense of this all. "It's no use worrying about it now, Kim; if you go off in search for him, he may come back here looking for you and it would only create more of a mess. Why don't you stay here for the night and just rest; and get those bruises fixed, you look like you were in a street fight." He chuckles. Kim sits motionless in a daze. "What if he doesn't come back?" Kim asks quietly, not really expecting an answer, just giving her thoughts voice. "If he loves you...he will." the man smiles encouragingly. Kim raises her eyes and smiles weakly, "thank you." The man gives her a pat on the back and walks to his car; he gives the soldier a salute and drives off. Kim slowly walks back to the tent, mind racing with thoughts of James in a cold and cruel war with no word that his wife is safe and sound. "Maybe he never even knew I was missing." she scoffs, wiping a tear from her cheek. As she steps into the tent, she climbs under the covers of James' bed, laying on his side of the bed. She rests her head on the pillow and breathes in the subtle scent of aftershave on his pillow which makes her heart skip a beat. She sighs, trying to suppress the tears, then takes a deep breath of the fresh, crisp air that's whirling in from the crack in the tent. The heavy blanket wrapped around her body makes it feel as though she's being held by James; his strong arms wrapping around her and keeping her safe from this terrible nightmare, whispering words of comfort in her ear. With her final thought of the day being of James, she cries herself to sleep and dreams of him to ease the pain.
As James continues to search aimlessly around the streets of some strange city, he sits down hard on the sidewalk and lays his head against a wall out of exhaustion due to lack of sleep. Pull yourself together, James; you won't get anywhere if you keep wandering around like this! Ask around and show them her picture, post a message in the newspap--. He stops immediately. "That's it!" he jumps up shrieking. "I'll put an advertisement in the newspaper and the surrounding cities about my whereabouts so if Kim happens across it then she'll know to keep hope. I won't use her last name though, just in case those scoundrels keep an eye out." He quickly steps up his pace with a rejuvenated energy -- now having something to aim for, he makes his way to the nearest editorial office with high hopes.

Angie walked back over to Jim's bed and sat down in the chair next to it.
Jim: Come here *he put his arm out and she took his hand*.
Angie: I better not. The nurse told me to go easy on you b/c you needed rest.
Jim: *laughing* Okay. Believe me I don't mind you being a little rough with me.
Angie: What do you mean? *she said getting a little upset*
Jim: Well nothing really. Some of the other nurses have been flirting with me a little I guess.
Angie: What have they been doing?
Jim: I think one of them kissed me yesterday.
Angie: WHAT?!
Jim: It wasn't my fault. I was sleeping and I think she kissed my forehead. I didn't do anything to encourage her though sweetheart, please don't be mad. *he said squeezing her hand gently*.
Angie: Oh I'm not mad at you I'm mad at her. And trust me you don't have to do anything to drive women crazy.
Jim: I don't know about that *he looked down at his hands and chuckled*.
Angie: Trust me on this one honey. I love you because of the wonderful man that you are and something just clicked between us. But the first time I saw you all I could think was 'there goes the most beautiful man I have ever seen'. Now don't tell me you haven't been fighting off the girls you're whole life.
Jim: *his whole face turned bright red* No I haven't. I've always been kinda shy around women. I've had a few girlfriends but nothing really serious. Not until I met you anyway.
Angie: *putting her hands on his face* You are the sweetest thing alive.
*She got up to kiss him but felt woozy and had to sit back down.*
Jim: Are you okay?
Angie: Yeah, I'm fine. I just felt a little dizzy for a minute. Goodness it's almost lunch time! I better take this tray down and get your lunch.
Jim: Are you sure you feel okay?
Angie: Stop worrying, I'm fine. You're just so cute it made feel swoony *she said giggling and pinched his cheek*.

sam: you are a feisty one arent you?
theresa: well he got me angry*thinking sam was angry with her*
sam pulls her in for a kiss as all the soldiers bust the door down and roam the halls for the general.
they open a door and point every gun at the general in a bed with bandages on his arm and around his stomach.
general speer: what do you want?
sam walks in the room with theresa hand in hand
general speer: you two!! * his face turns red with anger, and rips himself out of the bed, but the soldiers get a hold of him.
sam: alright guys let's move out!!
with the german soldier they have tied up and the general, they head back to camp.
the morning comes by fast and they reach the camp again handing over the general to headquarters for questioning with the german soldier too.
nurse granger: you two have done enough, i want you two to go to a hotel and sleep in a real bed!!!
theresa: really connie?!!
sam: thanks constance!!
connie: may i kiss him on the cheek theresa?
theresa: sure, but i warn you it is a hard habbit to get out of
theresa and connie giggle after she kisses him on the cheek.
connie: oh go on, before i change my mind!
they walk to the little village where they got married and sought out a hotel.they decide to go ask the darling priest.
theresa: hello father!
sam: do you know where the nearest hotel is from here?
priest: hello kids, again, yes the hotel is only a half a mile from here stright north.
theresa: thank you father
sam: see you later
priest: good bye!
they leave the small church and walk to the hotel. althogh sam has gone through so much, his leg has gotten better, because theresa has taken good care of it.
they arrive at the hotel and start to walk into the room, but sam pauses
sam: wait a minute
theresa: what sam?
sam: i didnt get to carry you across the threshold on our wedding night, so i am going to do it now
theresa: but sam your leg, i forbid it, but it is a romantic though though darling*she smiles*
sam picks her up anyway
theresa: put me down you will hurt your leg!

sam: i love you too*as he sits down and they lay backwards kissing*
