*Kim walks over to where she saw Angie and Theresa sitting in their chairs. They all sit together in silence trying to hold in their tears. A few minutes later the head nurse on duty comes for Angie and asks her to join her in her office*.
Nurse Stone: Sit down Angie. I've noticed what a good job you do around here and so have some of the others higher up.
Angie: Thank you Mrs. Stone. I try to do my best.
Nurse Stone: As you know sometimes we need to send nurses and aides to the field hospitals and right now we're short at Troyes. I'd like to send you. You could be of great help there.
Angie: *stunned she sits silent for a moment* Whatever you think will help Mrs. Stone.
Nurse Stone: Good. You and several other nurses will leave this evening. The 22nd Division is shipping out too also headed to Troyes and you'll travel with them. You can have the rest of the day off to get packed.
Angie: Thank you. *she says as she turns to leave and head back to her sisters*.
*Even knowing how dangerous this assignment might be Angie is more afraid of missing any of Jim's letters. His last one came two days ago and it was very sweet. He told her how happy he was to have someone to write too and how much he missed her.*
Angie: Well girls I've got some news. They're sending me to the field hospital in Troyes for a while.
Kim: When are you going?
Angie: I'm leaving on the train this evening with some other nurses.
Theresa: You can't go, it's too dangerous.
Angie: Well I don't think I have much choice. Your break is almost over, I gotta go home and get packed up. I'll see you again though before I leave.
*Angie hugs each of her sisters and then heads home to begin packing the few things she'll need*.

theresa:*looks to kim* i cant believe she is going through with this
kim:its not like she gets to choose
theresa: i know but really!...i hope she stays careful
kim: she better!
angie walks out the door with her luggage in her hands and tears glittering on her cheeks
angie: i shall miss you two so much!
they group hug as angie leaves to catch the train. they sit down and talk it over when about ten minutes later a knock startles them at the door.
kim runs to answer the door in fear it would be bad news of james
kim: hello
nurse: is there a theresa here?
kim: yes please come in
theresa: are you looking for me?
nurse: yes ma'am i have an order for you to be sent to morbeau
theresa: morbeau?*she gasps*
nurse: yes we need you in the field help.
theresa: of course-
nurse:may i talk to you alone for a moment?
theresa looks to kim curiously and kim shrugs as theresa leads the nurse into her bedroom
theresa: yes?
nurse: i have been sent by the FBI to tell you we need you to go undercover at morbeau. we have information as to your having german lessons in the past?
theresa: yes i can speak it quite fluently, why?
nurse: we need you to go indercover as a german and find out any information you may come across to help us win this war
theresa:you want me to be a spy?
nurse: well, yes
theresa: but i just couldnt do that
nurse: oh but you must!
theresa: oh very well*thinking to herself that she might get to see her sam again in the process*
nurse: you must not tell anyone of this mission
theresa: not even my sister?
nurse: heaven forbid!
theresa: yes ma'am. when do i leave?
nurse: my information tells me tomorrow morning on the eight o' clock train
theresa nods and opens the bedroom door walking to kim
theresa: thank you for coming
nurse: my pleasure*as she walks out the door with her hands together behind her back*
kim: what was that about?
theresa: oh she was just giving me information on my trip to morbeau
kim: oh. when do you have to leave?
theresa: tomorrow morning at eight
they go to bed without a word said to each other. its morning and theresa is all packed
before theresa leaves kim runs to her with a big hug
kim: try and be as careful as you can theresa
theresa: i will.
she bounds out the door leaving kim saddened by the thought of both her sisters getting hurt in the fields

It's your turn Kim. I'm not trying to rush you, just wanted to remind you since sometimes it's easy to get confused about the order

On her long and lonely walk home, Kim averts her eyes to the cement that seem to reflect the feel of her now lonely and desolate heart: stone cold and lifeless. The steps seem longer and the air a little colder. For what seemed like a lifetime, only having been a couple weeks, she's felt his strong hands around her waist and his warm warm body shielding her from the icy claws of reality. She saunters into her empty apartment and throws herself on the couch, letting the sobs wrack her body and take strong hold over her emotions. How could she continue life without him? What would life mean to her if he never came back? If she couldn't have him...then she simply wanted no part of this life. After 45 minutes of mind-numbing sobbing Kim pulls herself together and makes her way quickly toward her closet to pack, sniffing back the tears with one mission in mind. If he can't be near me, then I'll go to him. She quickens her pace and packs her bags. Once her bags are full with the basic items she'll need on her trip, she makes her way toward the hospital to tell her friend and co-worker Lucy on her whereabouts if James, Angie or Theresa come back unexpectedly. Lucy helps with the luggage and as Kim waits for the train to leave, she tries to convince Kim that her idea is anything but logical. “Kim, what if he comes back without you knowing? Have you even told him?” Lucy inquires. “What good would that do? It would only worry him and he’d have to go anyways.” Kim replies. “Aren’t you going to tell him?” “Well…not yet. I may write him from Switzerland.” Kim says as she tucks the train ticket into her purse. “Why tonight?” Lucy asks, worrisome. “I couldn’t go back to that hospital. I couldn’t stand it; not with him gone. And I’d be the only one left from my sisters.” “But you’ll be all alone in Switzerland—“ “Don’t worry, Lou, I’ll be all right.” Kim says sweetly. “You’re not afraid of anything, are you?” Lucy questions, eyes looking toward the ground to keep from showing her tears. “Only of going back to that hospital.” Kim jokes, with a slight cringe. Lucy goes to interrupt but once Kim hears the train whistle her mind is focused on one thing. “I have to go, honey, I’ll write you in a couple weeks.” With that said, Kim boards the train without a word from Lucy.
A couple days later, Kim sits at a cramped desk in her small, rundown hotel room with rags for bedding, smeared dirt for wallpaper and hardwood floors almost as dirty as the walls and begins to write her first letter to James. She begins:
My Dearest James,
I couldn’t bear France with you away so I chucked the war and came to live in a little Swiss town nearest possible to the Italian border and you. And darling it’s an adorable place; I’ll be very happy here. I’ve taken a suite in the best hotel and I’m wallowing in the luxury. The bed is enormous here, fit for an empress. There’s a maroon velvet carpet ankle deep; and a bathroom – oh darling, the bathroom is of black marble with silver fittings. I’ve just dined in state at my sitting room window in which there is a divine view of the lake shimmering in the moon.
Once she finishes and folds up her letter into the envelope, she fixes her gaze upon his picture sitting upright next to her stationary, leans her arms upon the desk and smiles, chuckling. “I’m an awful liar, darling. It’s not really a nice place at all; it’s mean, cheap and horrible. But it doesn’t matter where I live because I don’t really live at all when I’m not with you.” Her eyes begin to well up with tears but she quickly wipes them away and gently caresses the picture frame with her fingertips. “What I really wanted to tell you is that I will lie awake in the dark and cry because you’re not here. I’m lonely and frightened…and I love you.” She lowers her head slowly and presses her cheek against his picture, tears streaming down her face.

Angie has been in the small town of Troyes for 3 days and has kept busy tending to the wounded soldiers brought in from the front lines. While she misses her sisters and Jim she's glad for her busy schedule that has helped to keep her mind off them. Even though she's surrounded by other nurses, hospital staff, and patients she feels completely alone. She has her own room in a little house she is sharing with a couple of other nurse's aides but they all work different shifts so she rarely sees them.
Back at the makeshift hospital Angie had just finished changing one of the soldier's bandages when she heard a familiar voice coming from a couple of beds away. She was afraid to turn around because if it wasn't him the disappointment might be too great. Finally she could stand it no longer and slowly turned to see Jim sitting on a stool next to one of the soldiers' beds talking to him. It took her breath away to see him and she stood like a statue until he looked up and saw her. At first he looked surprised and then a big smile covered his handsome face and his blue eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas. Angie smiled weakly as he got up and walked over to her.
Jim: What are you doing here? *he whispered*
Angie: I was transferred a few days ago because they were short-handed.
*That was all she was able to say as she suddenly turned pale and felt like she was about to faint. She began to fall but Jim caught her and carried her to a chair in the corner of the room.*
Jim: Are you okay? *he said brushing her hair back from her face*
Angie: Uh, yeah, I think so. I guess I've just been working too hard. Why aren't you in Morbeau?
Jim: I was but we got that bridge fixed and then were sent here. We just got in late last night. I sent you a letter this morning explaining it. It's much better to get to tell you in person.
*For a moment they sat silent just looking in each other's eyes until a nurse came in.*
Nurse: *seeing Angie sitting in the chair* What happened?
Angie: Oh I guess I fainted. *Looking to Jim* Thanks for helping me sir, I surely would've hit the ground if you hadn't caught me.
Jim: *also pretending like he didn't know her* You're welcome miss. You'll be alright now, I better get back to my men.
Nurse: Thank you Captain *she said to Jim as she helped Angie get up from the chair*.
*Jim tipped his hat to them and walked outside. As Angie went about her rounds the rest of the day it took all she had to concentrate on her work. Often she found herself daydreaming about Jim and she couldn't remember a time she had felt so happy as when she saw his face earlier that morning. As she was nearing the end of her shift she realized she didn't know where he was staying and she had to see him so she thought up a little fib to determine his whereabouts.*
Angie: Hello soldier *she said to the man lying on the cot that Jim had visited earlier*.
Soldier: Hello nursie! *he said in a little bit of a stupor b/c of the morphine he'd been given*.
Angie: Do you by any chance know where Capt. Jim Baker's quarters are? I saw him talking to you earlier and I have an important message for him.
Soldier: I sure do sweetie-pie. He's probably in the same place he stayed last time we were here. It's just up the street next to a cafe and there's a little sign that says Patisserie in front.
Angie: Thank you! *She quickly headed back to her room and took a bath and got all gussied up as best she could. She hadn't brought any pretty clothes with her so the uniform would have to do. Then under cover of night she walked to his quarters.*

theresa is on the train sitting next to the window with her hand up to her chin, talking to herself.
theresa: i sure hope angie is okay. maybe i will see sam incidently. oh no, that would be too good to be true. he better not be hurt, he cant be.*she mumbles*
the man next to her hears her talking
man: you know miss, if you wish for the thing you want really hard, you might just get it.
theresa looks to the man confused
theresa:what was that you said?
man: if you really wish for something you want the most, you might just get it.
theresa: wouldnt that be lovely if that were true?
man: but it is true miss. *he winks to her and she looks confused by a strange man giving her advice*
theresa smiles to the man and turns her head back to the window looking out into the fields of rubble from a previous battle. her smile turns quickly into a face full of sorrow.
the train suddenly comes to a hault as theresa hears the a voice,
we have reached morbeau ladies and gentlemen.
theresa picks up her luggage and walks outside.
as she walks down the steps and looks up, she sees a nurse standing with a straight face.
nurse: are you theresa?
theresa: yes, arent you showing a little too much emotion?
nurse clears her throat and looks to theresa
nurse: i am nurse constance granger, and i will be looking out for you.
theresa: oh well....where do i go next?
nurse granger: you will come with me to the hospital tent and help the soldiers. we must wait until we are alone.
theresa: okay
they walk for a couple miles until they see noone while walking to the tent.
nurse granger: tomorrow morning you will go find information about the nazis next attact on us. use your knowledge of the german language and anything else you can do to help you.
theresa: yes ma'am.
theresa got to the tent and got to work immediately. as she was bandaging a widely open wound(goodness this is grossing me out), she is shaken by a bomb just landing on the fields.
theresa:*tells the wounded soldiers* everything is alright, just relax men! all the other nurses helping around her, say the same thing and continue on with their work.
theresa walks outside the tent to see what happened.
she sees a man yelling to the other soldiers to keep calm.
theresa: its sam!!! *she suddenly thinks of the man next to her on the train and tilts her head slightly*
sam falls to the ground in pain
theresa: sam!!*she runs to him*
sam: theresa,wha-
theresa: darling, whats wrong?
sam: its my left leg...youre here.
theresa: im here*she says panicking and turns to the tent*
theresa: i need help out here!!!
the nurse dont hear her, but 2 soldiers that do in the field come over to help her carry him into the tent.
while they are carrying sam, the battlefield is shaking with bombs going off and soldiers rushing everywhere, shooting their guns to the enemy lines.
its not poetry, but its what i had to write in order for my plan to work girls.

Weeks pass slowly and still no response from James. Was he all right or was he just too busy to write her amongst the craziness of war? Either way she still worried; worried that perhaps he could have been seriously wounded with no possible way of getting word to her...or perhaps, could it have been that he was just like a thousand other soldiers who are only interested in a fling then disappear from the scene, never to be heard from again? It's easy to let her mind wander, but she knows him all too well to believe that he could ever do such a thing. James may have a tough side, but to her he was anything but. She slowly takes a seat on her tattered couch and lays her head upon the musty pillow, gazing out of the window, unable to see much because of the black night's sky but hearing the pitter patter of raindrops crashing against the windowpane. "Could it be that I got the address wrong?" she worries aloud, as if sharing her problems with an imaginary friend sitting beside her. She chuckles to herself then fixes her gaze to the dusty hardwood floor. "Or maybe..." she stops mid-thought and shakes her head, refusing to entertain the notion of James being unfaithful...or dead. She makes her way to the door and picks up her coat, closing the door quietly, not wanting to disturb the other tenants next door who are sleeping. "I need something to keep me busy; that way I won't keep myself up half the night worrying and I'd be able to concentrate on life instead of a possible death." she says to herself in a dull whisper, while trudging through the rain puddles. As she slowly travels down the quietly lifeless street with a heavy mist covering her footsteps and light raindrops still dripping from a few large birch trees guiding her path, she continues to talk aloud to herself, "Maybe I should find a nearby hospital to work at -- just until I get word from James." She pauses for a moment, playing out the plan in her mind. "But what good would that do? Every day I'd worry about seeing him dead on a stretcher. I couldn't go through that; I won't." And she didn't. Sheltering herself from the world was all she could do for now; and she was good at it. Her body begins to feel exhaustion for the first time in years. Never has she worried herself sick since her mother died in a automobile accident 4 years ago. The fear of losing James would be all too familiar -- something she wouldn't be strong enough to survive.
The next morning as she awakes by the sound of birds chirping outside her window, a warm breeze sweeps in through the window and dances across her bare arms, sending gooseflesh trickling down her spine. The warmth seems to give her a new hope for the new day. After her daily walk down to the bakery and a cup of her favorite coffee she passes through the busy morning traffic in uptown Switzerland, down to the post office. In no hurry and filled with hesitation to even do so in fear that she'll only be let down again she presses on and sticks her hand into the mailbox. Her fingers gently caress the edges of a small letter. Her eyes widen with a slight twinkle and a smile dances across her lips. "Could it be?" she thinks to herself, pulling out the letter and turning it around to see who it's from. "James Braydon" Her heart leaps for joy and flutters inside her chest. A faint squeal of excitement escapes from her mouth as she begins to rip open the card; hands trembling and heart beating faster with ever rip and tear.
Mrs. Braydon,
Meet me at the train station at 4:30pm.
- Yours forever.
"He's alive!" Kim shrieks with a body almost ready to collapse. Her eyes well up with tears, her voice is shaky and her bottom lip begins quivering. She bounds out the door toward her apartment to pruce herself up. With her mind so focused on meeting him at the station at 4:30, she hardly seems to notice the heading "Mrs."

That was great Kim!!!
When she got to the cafe Angie saw an older woman out front sweeping.
Angie: Excuse me, do you know if there's a Capt. Jim Baker living here; I have an important message for him.
Woman: Yes he lives here *she said in a thick French accent*.
Angie: Can you tell me which room is his?
*The woman could see right through Angie's story because no one would send a pretty, young nurse to a handsome officer's quarters at night so she knew they must be sweethearts.*
Woman: I could but if you get caught it could mean big trouble for both of you.
Angie: Oh but I'm here strictly on business.
*She looked at the woman trying to keep a straight face but the woman just smiled at her and Angie knew the jig was up.*
Woman: Come on, I'll show you how to get in so you won't get caught. *She led Angie down a small alley next to the building and around the back. She pointed up to a window with closed shutters on the second floor and a bunch of hay bails underneath it.*
Woman: That’s Capt. Jim's room. You can climb up on the hay bails and get to the window. *Before Angie could thank her she had already headed back around to the front to finish her work. She climbed up on the hay and listened at the window for a moment to make sure he was alone and once she was satisfied that he was she quietly knocked on the shutters.*
*Jim opened the shutters and was taken aback to see Angie at his window.*
Jim: How did you get up here?
Angie: I flew! *she joked * Are you going to help me in?
Jim: Oh, uh, yeah *he said as he took her arms and helped her into his room.*
*Once inside however they seemed awkward together and neither one really knew what to say. They hadn't been alone like this since they'd met and hadn't even kissed yet. After what seemed like several minutes of pointless small talk Angie finally spoke up.*
Angie: Can we sit down?
Jim: Sure, how about over here? *he said as they sat down on a sofa so small they had to sit very close.*
Angie: *she took one of his big hands and held it with both of hers* I told you I fainted this morning because I had just been working too hard. Well that wasn’t true. I was so happy to see you that it just got the better of me.
Jim: Gosh, I was really glad to see you too. I missed you a lot.
Angie: I wasn't sure before but when I saw you again this morning I knew that I was in love with you. *She'd never said that to any man before and the words sounded so strange coming out of her mouth.*
Jim: *looking into her eyes tenderly and caressing her face with his other hand* I love you too. *He put his arms around her and pulled her even closer and slowly their lips met in a sweet, tender kiss*.
Jim: *pulling Angie up to her feet and holding her hand* C'mon!
Angie: Where are we going?
Jim: It's against regulations to get married in a war zone but the mayor of this town is a pretty good friend of mine. If you… *he paused before he could finish his thought. Maybe she didn’t want to marry him. However the bright, beaming smile across her face let him know she did*.

theresa holds sam's hand in the tent trying to hold in her tears. she knows he will be alright... she could only hope. sam: i love you*he says weakly and falls to sleep* theresa: i love you*she says in a whisper up to his ear still clutching his hand* theresa ties to stay up all night taking care of sam and making sure he is doing well, trying not to give too much away that they love each other to the others around them. the next morning sam wakes up to find theresa alseep next to his head still holding his hand. he smiles and cuddles her head. nurse granger: miss theresa! theresa: *wakes up and gasps* oh.....i was ... just...watching him to see if he was alright.*she says with wide eyes and sam trying not to smile* nurse granger: you have a job to do today theresa: oh yes, i will get ready. nurse granger leaves the tent knowing there is something going on in between them. theresa: sam i have to go right now, but i promise i will be back sam: where are you going? theresa: i cant tell you darling*she shakes her head* sam:before you go, i want to ask you something theresa: yes darling? sam: i know i am in a cot and i cant walk for the moment, but i have been wanting to...well...would you by any chance want to marry me darling? theresa: *loses concentration of the world around her and just looks into his eyes* oh yes sam! sam throws his head back onto the cot. sam: oh now, now i can relax! theresa: sam... sam: yes darling theresa: well you just proposed to me....oh sam do i always have to take the initiative? your suppose to kiss me darling*she smiles pathetically*(sound familiar? ) sam: im sorry darling* he pulls himself up a little and she leans down at him for a soft kiss.* theresa: i must go now sam sam: okay darling*he says with saddened eyes* theresa walks away and slowly lets go of his hand in the air. in ten minutes theresa gets out of her nurse uniform and inti clothes that will try to blend into the germans kind of clothes. she sneaks out of the tent with noone around and walks off t the enemy lines hiding in the bushes a german spots her while loading his gun german:*in their language* who is it?! *and points his gun to her* theresa: *in their language* i am lost, please help me german:you are german? theresa: yes german: where did you come from? why are you here? theresa: uh...i told you i was lost..i went for a long walk and got lost. german looks to her suspiciously. german: i will take you to the general's headquarters and we will see what he has to say about this.
