I have to do serious, technical, and grammatically correct writing for my Ph.D. stuff so this kind of writing is just for fun!!
Also Kim, love the 'she prefers pansies' line. That is one of his best lines from any movie and makes me laugh out loud every time I watch that one
I actually get tickled before he even says it b/c I know it's coming!
*While dancing with Jim, Angie looks down at the beautiful orchid corsage around her wrist and smiles*.
Jim: I hoped you'd like that one. It was the nicest one they had.
Angie: Oh I do, it's beautiful. It kind of reminds me of home. With it being such nice weather nearly year round there are always flowers blooming somewhere.
Jim: Sounds very different from Wyoming *he chuckles*. The summers are nice but the rest of the year it's mostly cold and the winters are terrible. Don't get me wrong though, it's a pretty nice place.
Angie: I'm sure it is.
*They continue dancing for a while until Jim sees one of the men from his division standing in the corner looking very forlorn*.
Angie: *seeing a look of concern on his face* Is something wrong?
Jim: No. *hesitates for a minute* Well that's Private Smith *looking to the sad young man* and he just got a letter from his girl today saying she'd married someone else.
Angie: Oh that's awful.
Jim: Yeah, I told him he should go out and try to have some fun and take his mind off it but I didn't think he'd actually do it.
Angie: Well let's go over and talk to him.
Jim: Okay.
*They walk over to the sad soldier who perks up a little when he sees them coming.*
Jim: Hi David!
David: Hello Capt. Baker.
Jim: Angie, this is Private David Smith, he's one of my best men.
Angie: *extending her hand to shake his* It's very nice to meet you Private Smith.
David: Nice to meet you too miss *he kinda mumbles while looking down*. I think I'm gonna head back to the barracks sir.
Angie: Oh don't leave yet David you just got here. Would you like to dance?
David: With you miss?
Angie: Sure, you don't mind do you Jim?
Jim: No, just don't show me up out there Smith.
David: No sir *he says laughing a little*.
*Angie and David step out onto the floor and dance a couple of songs together*.
David: It was nice of you to dance with me Angie but I better give you back to your date. He is my commanding officer you know.
Angie: Alright *she says smiling*.
David: Well I'm gonna head on home. Goodnight!
Angie: Goodnight!
*She walks back over to Jim who has a big smile on his face*.
Angie: What's that big grin for?
Jim: That was really sweet, what you did for him.
Angie: Oh it wasn't anything really.
Jim: Yes it was. About all the boys have to look forward to over here are letters from home, especially if they're from your sweetheart. Once that's gone it can seem pretty bleak. I know you made him feel at least a little bit better.
Angie: I bet you get letters from lots of girls back home *she says trying not to get choked up by the thought of Jim having a girlfriend waiting for him*.
Jim: *blushing and looking down at the floor* Oh no, I don't get letters from anybody.
Angie: Well don't your parents write to you?
Jim: I don't have any folks and the friends I had got drafted too.
Angie: Oh. Well if you get transferred or something I'll write to you *she said sweetly looking up into his lovely blue eyes*.
Jim: You will? *she nods and then he bended down and kissed her on the cheek*. Oh I didn't realize how late it was. I better get you back home.
*Jim and Angie leave the dance hand in hand as he walked her home*.
I just had a funny thought girls. All our Gary's are from the same year ('30-'31) so they'll all look exactly the same
