I'm finally learning how to Charleston! It's slow, but I'm getting there... I'd really love to learn how to dance like this, though: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZYn813sUKMP.S I hit the library up for some Charleston books, but they don't really have anything...maybe I should head to ebay?

I A-D-O-R-E the Charleston! It really has got to be the most fun dance EVER! What I love most about it, is that once you get the essential steps down, you can really "make it your own" dance. It really lets you invest your own unique personality into it, jazzing it up with your own kicks and twists, provided it doesn't stray -too- far from the original dance. But yes, YAY, I'm happy for you!

That's exactly what I thought! And you hit it right on the nose! It is unique for everyone, because when I asked my grandma how to dance last week she had a different version than my mom, and when I checked on YouTube there were even more steps that I hadn't seen before! And I'll have to agree with you on that, it is just the most fun dance EVER! I'm hoping to take classes soon, because I really wanna get serious about it. Can you dance the charleston?

I can! Not masterfully, but I'm not too shabby. I have my grandmother to thank, and those countless silents I've absorbed! I'd like to take classes that cover the Charleston, as well as all the old jazz dances. I'd especially like to learn to dance the Black Bottom well.

Thanks to grandmas! I want to learn how to swing and jazz dance as well. I did find a couple videos at the library although I haven't gotten a chance to watch them yet, they look great! So I can't wait to break out of the old tap shoes and have a go at it! *Takes note* ...First, buy tape shoes...

That's a cool dance! I can't do it, but that would be so cool to be able to! Did u know that Ginger Rogers won a charleston dance contest when she was young, and then in on of the Lucy Shows, she, lucy, and lucie do it! Ginger R. was amazing doing it!!

I LOVE tap dancing and I took lessons for 12 years when I was little all the way through high school (also took ballet, jazz and toe or pointe lessons). It is just always fun, happy dancing and I miss it so much. Every other year we put on a big recital with all the classes from the little kids through the high schoolers and the high school girls tap dance was always the highlight of the show.
The fave dance of mine we did was a tap dance to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and man we brought the house down!!! It was my first recital in high school and we were so excited b/c it was such a good routine and we knew everyone would like it. We got a huge standing ovation and people were yelling for an encore. Miss Reba, our dance teacher who made up the routine, said it was her fave too and she had never gotten so many compliments before on a dance and she had been doing it nearly 15 years at that point.
I definitely encourage anybody who wants to, to go for it and dance your hearts out!!!!!

The Charleston is fun. Believe me or not,we learned how to do the Charleston in an exercise class. A few years ago. Picturing Stewart and Reed dancing along only to fall into the swimming pool. I'm not that good at it. It's fun. To dance like in "Take The Lead",wow. Probably hurt myself. Think of the hours of dancing,to make it look so easy.

I love Swing Dance...they have a plethora of movements in Swing Dance that have been taken from The Charleston.
A girl I know, a Swing Dancer, she knows the Charleston and she was trying to teach me. heheh. Those cats in the video are a thousand times better than I am though. lol...
