My review on All Quiet on the Western Front
I just watched the 1930 version of this movie (not the one with the guy from the walton's in it) and thught it was a very good and well done ww1 movie. I like all ww1 movies better than ww2 movies and this was no exception. Fans of Beryl Mercer from Gary Cooper's film Seven Days Leave will be delighted to know that she played the mom of Paul Baumer (Lew Aryes) in this movie. Overall this was a very well done movie with best actor for me going to the hardened ww1 soldier Kat Katczinsky played by Louis Wolheim. The only weakness I think was the main character Paul Baumer played by Lew Ayres who had his moments but seemed very bad acting wise and quite fake in many parts of the movie. In two parts he was praying for his buddy not to die and an enemy he had stabbed not to die and seemed like he was over acting to a very high degree and his talking in those scenes was very strange and very unnatural unlike Gary Cooper if he would have been in the movie.
