I'd forgotten about this one. Hitchcock directed so many great films. We have it on vhs and I am going to have to dig it up to watch again.

It's a great movie; I loved it. Joan Fontaine and Lawrence Olivier were perfect for the part -- which is no surprise. It's a Hitch film, they're always masterpieces.

Did you know that Laurence Olivier was rude to Joan during the making of Rebecca? The reason was because he wanted Vivien Leigh to get the part and when she didn't, he acted like a jerk to Fontaine. Fontaine was so taken a back by Olivier's behavior that she became shy onset which Hitchcock used to his advantage. He told her that everyone on the set hated her and she became distant from everyone. I felt so bad for Joan but she gave an amazing performance in the film.

Trivia, does anyone know if Laurence Olivier is a stage name.
In demonology Olivier is a high ranking demon of some kind (and judging from what you note of his behavior on the set, well...if the shoe fits) and Sy .Laurence (note the pecuuliar spelling is identical in both cases) is supposed to be the Catholic saint who opposes him.
Interesting trivia.
