Sexy, wisecracking nightclub singer Sugarpuss O'Shea is a hot tomato who needs to be kept on ice: mobster boyfriend Joe Lilac is suspected of murder and Sugarpuss' testimony could put him away. Naive Professor Bertram Potts meets Miss O'Shea while researching an article on slang and in true romantic comedy fashion the two worlds collide. When Miss O'Shea hides out with Potts and his fellow professors, everyone learns something new: the professors how to cha-cha and Potts the meaning of "yum-yum"!This movie is adorable. I love it to pieces... And Coop, my goodness, the man is absolutely hilarious! (As always...) Trailer:www.videodetective.com/trailer-preview.asp?publishedid=544914

I LOVED that part where he tells that pestrami guy,
"Why...you very ugly young man, you look just beautiful right now..."
LOL!!
I wrote this quote down in the "quote" section from the game category but I'll post it here as well ;D
Sugarpuss O'Shea: I love him because he's the kind of guy who gets drunk on a glass of buttermilk, and I love the way he blushes right up over his ears. I love him because he doesn't know how to kiss, the jerk!
Sugar: Do you know what this means - "I'll get you on the Ameche"? Professor: No. Sugar: 'Course you don't. An Ameche is the telephone, on account of he invented it. Professor: Oh, no, he didn't. Sugar: Like, you know, in the movies. Professor: Well, I see what you mean. Very interesting. Make no mistake, I shall regret the absence of your keen mind; unfortunately, it is inseparable from an extremely disturbing body.
[Being held captive by a mobster, Professor comes to the realization, thanks to the mobster, that Sugar isn't yet married, so he still has time to save her] Professor: [Chuckles] Why...you very ugly young man... you know, right now, to me, you look perfectly delightful.
[Bringing her food up to her room about to propose with the ring hidden under a plate full of toast:] Professor: Toast? Sugar: No thanks. Professor: Y-y-you sure you don't want some toast? Sugar: Neh eh. Professor: I'll get you some jam to go with it...it's-- Sugar: Nuh uh, never use it. Professor: Not just one bite? Sugar: Nuh uh. Siddown, take a load off your feet... [he sits down] Professor: I-- Sugar: Say, I found out what's wrong with account of because...It's saying the same thing -- you know, like calling someone a rich million? -- You call it, umm, a plyo--...no, a umm... Professor: Playonasm? Sugar: That how you pronounce it? That's it. Professor: Who told you that? Sugar: Oh, this room's full about books about grammer. I read for a couple of hours... Professor: I couldn't sleep either-- I walked to the park 'til the sun came up over the East 60's....It took me all that time to gather my thoughts, to analyze my impulses - and clerify our relationship... Sugar: Have we got one of those? Professor: A very important moment - a new chapter - in fact, for me, it's the first chapter. For what has my life been up 'til now? A preface; an empty forward. Sugar: You couldn't talk a little plainer, could you? Professor: Not if you won't have a piece of toast...At least just......at least look under the lid. Sugar: Awww, you went and bought me a present. Professor: [Walking away in a shy mannor] I hope it fits...Gurkakoff calculated the circumferance of your finger. Professor: I woke up the jewler at seven o'clock this morning. Sugar: It's a lovely ring, Potsy. Really it is. [He fixes himself next to her and smiles proudly] Professor: I'd hoped you liked it...It's our...it's our engagement ring. Sugar: Potsy! Do you mean you-- Professor: Yes, I-- Sugar: [Laughs] You mean you really-- Professor: Well...-- Sugar: What am I supposed to say? Professor: Just say yes. After you've declared your feelings, it's the only logical step to take. Sugar: Don't you think you better take another turn around the park, Potsy? Professor: [Laughs] I'm just as surprised as you - marriage - I thought I was married to my books. The only thing I thought I could care for deeply was a terectly constructed sentance. The subject, predicate, perverbial clause each in it's proper place. And then you....You see, I've had rather a curious life. I graduated from Princeton when I was 13; I recited 'Tiger, Tiger, burning bright' when I was a year old; before I was 2 I could read fluently. People like that just...well...you see; dust just piles up on their hearts, and it took you to blow it away. Sugar: Yeah....but I....I didn't mean to blow it smack into your eyes. Professor: Well, that's what happend. L-look inside the ring. Sugar: Oh, yeah, there's writing...Richard Ill...who's 'Richard Ill'? Professor: Richard the 3rd; Act 1; Scene 2; Line 204. There wasn't room for all the words. Sugar: What words? Professor: Well, they go like this, quote: Look how this ring encompaseth thy finger...even so thy breast encloseth my poor heart. Wear both of them for both of them are thine... Sugar: ......Unquote, I suppose. Professor: I hope you don't think it's too...corny.

LOL. I love the part where he's being held capture by that pestrami...guy and he gives Gary an idea and Gary goes, "Why, you very ugly young fellow! You've given me an idea!" That was totally ad-lib, by the way. AND the part where he puts up his dukes and starts hopping around

lol, I know. Like I told Megg, he's so awkward in his movies. I mean, he's such a lengthy beanpole, he doesn't know how to carry himself, so he knocks his head on doorposts and ceiling lamps. Well, in this one, he walks up to a human body map that's stuck up on the wall, he opens it up and out falls the spleen, the heart, the liver, the stomach and the lungs... he quickly shoves it all back in and gives the most awkward look to the camera. But it's so cute! Because he's sexy, strong, tall, manly, shy, sensative, sweet and hilarious...*sigh* I just love my husband

I think this was Gary's best comedy performance of his career.

This movie was so funny, but I think my favorite Cooper comedy would have to be "Bluebeard's Eighth Wife". Desire was pretty funny, too

I will have to watch B. E. W. again but I think I thought Casanova Brown was funnier. I really liked the part where he burned down his in-laws house by accident.

Ooooo, another comedy of Gary's I haven't seen? I just love Theresa Wright, too. She was wonderful in Pride of the Yankees!
I love his westerns, I love his dramas, I love his romances...but the comedies always run up to my top list.
Sergeant York shot right up there immediately; but like Deeds, Cowboy and the Lady (if it's considered a romance, then put that in the list of acceptions), Desire, Friendly Persuasion and Bluebeard's just made me laugh so hard I couldn't help myself! I guess with such a stressful day of babysitting for so long I kinda like to sit back and watch a comedy.
I know I'm going off topic here, but you know, for some reason I never could stand Love in the Afternoon, I know a lot of people get angry at me for not liking it, but I couldn't help but think he took second stage and underplayed his role quite a bit! Although he played it well, I guess I just got a little nervous because he played it SO well...

Casanova Brown will not disappoint as it is very funny and Theresa Wright is wonderful in it but does not have as big a part as Gary Cooper of whom the camera never goes off of the entire movie.

Yes there is a lot of Gary in that movie. I think there may be one or two short break aways at the end but he is certainly the star attraction in this movie. He is with two different woman in this movie and so of course Teresa Wright is not going to get equal billing.

I loved this movie so much when I watched it at YouTube, who was the angel who put it there? I was very unlucky with this movie, becaouse I bought one from e-bay, but I think after it didn't come for two mounth it is completly lost. I can't decide if it is my favorite comedy or Desire. Desire is more romantic and I like Marlene Dietrich, but this one is so funny! I haven't seen BEW and Casanova Brown yet!

I watched this movie for the first time this weekend--I got it from Netflix. My LORD, he looked good. Barbara Stanwyck was one lucky broad.
Aside from the obvious eye candy, it was a very cute movie too. I can't believe I hadn't seen it before!!

He looked extra good in all his movies in 1941 and as far as looks go, it's my fave year for him . Ball of Fire is one of my faves and it is a very cute movie. I love all the guys who played the professors, they just about steal the show from Gary and Barbara (who is one of my very favorite actresses). He's so cute as the shy bumbling professor and he and Barbara had great chemistry and are one of my fave screen pairings.
