As a parting shot, fired reporter Ann Mitchell prints a fake letter from unemployed "John Doe," who threatens suicide in protest of social ills. The paper is forced to rehire Ann and hires John Willoughby to impersonate "Doe." Ann and her bosses cynically milk the story for all it's worth, until the made-up "John Doe" philosophy starts a whole political movement. At last everyone, even Ann, takes her creation seriously...but publisher D.B. Norton has a secret plan.
I haven't seen this movie yet, but I've heard it's great!

Hi Kim,
I just received the UK SE of Meet John Doe in the mail today along with the Frank Capra Box set with the restored Mr Deeds Goes to Town on it and also received the package that you sent on audio cd’s on Cooper that you recently purchased on ebay and haven’t had a chance to look or listen to much of it yet as I am working some long and strange shift hours as of late. I did watch most of the SE version of Meet John Doe and various scenes from Newly restored Mr Deeds goes to town today and can comment on those a little. Mr Deeds from the Frank Capra collection looks fantastic and the best I have ever seen it although the original version looked fantastic as well. The SE of Meet John Doe looks better than any other dvd I have seen on MJD. It also has some very nice special features on it. I can also confirm that even though it came from the UK, it is all region and NTSC and does play on my dvd player without any problems at all. The picture is still far from looking as good as Mr Deeds I think as there are still scratches and stuff that come up on the picture and there are still some missing frames that cause you to lose a half of second every now and then of the film. This problem was evident on every other copy of the movie that I have viewed and in the same places so these small losses of frames must be due to the master print of the film having lost these frames. The picture is considerably sharper and cleaner than on the Laser light version that I was comparing it too. I did notice that the picture was a wee bit too soft when showing scenes shot farther away but was quite detailed and clean on the close up shots. This is pretty much a personal choice, as I prefer a sharper picture even if it results in more film grain. I did sharpen several of the movies that I sent out to you all from video tapes that did result in more noticeable film grain but I always take sharpness with more film grain over a softer and cleaner picture. But even with this I am still very pleased and do feel that this is the best quality of the film that is currently out on dvd and the only version that has special features included including an audio commentary.
Thanks very much for the recent package you sent out. I am sure that I will be enjoying all these cds for quite some time. I will send you out a package with these cleaner versions of Meet John Doe and Mr Deeds on DVD-R along with a the very clean and restored version of It on it and also some other dvd-rs such as The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell and any others one’s you can think of that you don’t have of Gary’s.
Dan

I hope when I get some time off of work to post some comparison shots of my own of both Meet John Doe and Mr Deeds Goes to Town and upload them to my photo bucket account.

Deleted the complicated technical talk posted here as I have decided that I can make no significant improvement to the what the studio has already done for the SE of Meet John Doe.

Lilac Time was just a lost cause. I'm determined to get through it, but maybe I'll wait until I'm 90 so I don't lose my eyesight at such a young age

Yes I hid mine as I didn't want people starting one of those birthday threads and making a big fuss over me on my birthday

Yes I can't do anything about that birthday thread now. I did check in on the board early in the day and saw that nothing was automatically posted in the events part for me so I fgured I had dodged a bullet. Deleted technical comments as I decided that I can make no significant improvement to the Studio SE of Meet John Doe.
