Definitely Gary Cooper I watched Pride of the Yankees during the baseball offseason b/c I love baseball movies and that one has become my fave. Then I saw part of Ball of Fire on TCM real late at night and thought it looked cute but I was too tired and couldn't stay up to watch it. A month or so later Gary was gonna be TCM's star of the month last December and I saw Ball of Fire was coming on and I had just gotten a dvd recorder as an early Christmas gift so I was ready to watch and record. Meet John Doe was coming on first though and I decided to watch it b/c it sounded good and as soon as Gary came onto the screen I was completely hooked I was sitting on the edge of my couch for most of it and was in tears by the end. I knew I had to see as many of his movies as I could and now I have them all (well all the ones that I have been able to track down which is all but a few).

Definately Gary for me as well. The man was so amazing! I mean, he had a HUGE list of incredible movies that, sadly, not a lot of people know about. He was sweet, shy, handsome, smart, TALL, and...gosh, I could go on and on, but he's top rank for me because he stood for something more than the others did, and he portrayed it very well onscreen (and off).

There's just something different and special about Gary that just makes him absolutely stand out to me more than anyone else. Like you said Kim so many of his personality traits came out onscreen as well and he just seems so believable in his roles b/c he could really do so many of those things in real life too. He was the embodiment of the strong, silent type and just a guy that you would feel safe with in any situation. Also for as many movies as he made there is only one that I don't like (The Fountainhead) and I can't say that about anybody else. Also I think he's the most amazingly good looking man I have ever seen from his debut in Barbara Worth to his last film The Real West. Sometimes when I watch him I realize I'm not breathing as deeply as I should be and I get kind of a flushed feeling like nobody else can do

I KNOW! Wow, that's exactly it. When I'm watching him with someone else, like my Dad, he's like, "Kim...are you okay?" And I'm completely unaware that I haven't BREATHED IN 3 MINUTES! There's just something about him that captures the audience and locks them in. When he's shy or if he smiles a certain way I find myself doing the same thing; I can't help but giggle or smile when he's acting sweet or adorable. And just as you said, you feel safe and protected while watching him. It's just amazing that someone so incredible and gosh, perfect, is really gone. I'm trying my hardest to keep high hopes but it's difficult at times to know that our one chance has already ended and there's not a blasted thing any one of us can do about it.

I'm trying my hardest to keep high hopes but it's difficult at times to know that our one chance has already ended and there's not a blasted thing any one of us can do about it.It's just such a shame that there was only one Gary and he's gone Sometimes when I'm watching his movies with my mom she'll tell me not to forget to blink. I just can't take my eyes off him He's absolutely mesmerizing. I love His Woman too, Theresa. He's so cute with that baby. I don't normally get all swoony over babies but when I see Gary with one like in His Woman and Casanova Brown I get all squishy!!!

Squishy...that's the perfect word! "Mother, I feel absolutely squishy about Gary." lol, That reminds me of Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer. *Dramatic sigh* I feel absolutely skonklish.

I got the squishy thing from an old short in the early 50s. A teenage girl has a crush on a boy and she tells one of her friends that he makes her feel squishy. It seemed appropriate in Gary's case too

I had another dream about Gary last night and I gotta share. He looked like he did in The Hanging Tree and we lived together in a little cabin up in mountains. I was working inside cleaning up and stuff and he was outside chopping firewood - shirtless I stopped what I was doing and just watched him for a while. Then my stupid alarm went off, man I hate that
