All right, I thought I'd share all my summer experiences with you guys.
These are just little stories explaining the behind the scenes of each photos. Martin gave me the idea in hopes that I wouldn't forget these stories. You don't necessarily have to feel compelled to post any reply, it's just a little dedication to my Summer of '07.
For July 4th my Dad, me, my Aunt Daina and her husband Gary all went canoing in the St. Croix river. Now, my aunt Daina and I are alike in so many ways it's amazing (by the way, she's Miss Bette Davis on myspace). Anyways, on the way up to the lake we both kept freaking out because the place they were selling the canoes was smaller than a shack! How professional can this be?
Well, while they drive us up to the river we hear Dad mutter to himself, "this isn't the right river...this one is too wild; we're supposed to go further west to the beginners one." Daina and I begin to banshee squeal in fear this may be our last stop here on earth. We finally arrive to the river; Dad talks with the instructor man who assures us that it's very tame and that no harm will come to any of us. "Just don't stand up in the canoe....that's our only rule." Like we had to worry about that, we were just terrified to be SITTING in the darn thing...we wouldn't be stupid enough to STAND UP. Now, my Dad wouldn't admit this but he's pretty amazing at everything and anything. He's a former Marine so he's been taught some pretty extreme stuff. Daina, Gary and I all fasten on our lifejackets...Dad stands aside without one, looking as calm as ever, just letting us look like complete idiots, scared out of our wits! And he's just smiling like, "let's do this thing."
About 45 minutes into the adventure we stop off on a small island to get out of this guy's way:
I noticed Gary took his life jacket off and had it in the boat. I asked Dad if we really needed to wear it or if we could just keep it in the boat with us. He kindly says, "oh, you just have to keep it in the boat" I laughed and said, "the people we passed probably looked at us and laughed, 'newbies.' "
After a while Dad and I were pretty far ahead of the two; when we looked back we just started laughing hysterically when we saw this:
"Fine, I'll get out and push it mySELF!"
The other people on the side were looking at her like she was nuts! Because it looks deep on their side! When in actuality we were a-ground most of the time! She gets OUT of the canoe and just starts mumbling to herself; and this was the gal who was flipping out about thinking she was gonna drown!
Gary posed for that one, of course, but it looks like he's saying, "NO! Don't tip the boat! I don't want to drown!!!" And she's like, "shut up, you ninny, it's like two inches deep!"
Just a few other goodies I took up ahead:
Panoramic that didn't turn out
Just across the stream from this last photo was this:
We boated past it when we heard a loud scream then a "SPLASH!!!" These people were jumping off that cliff and hitting the water! It was amusing because we'd hear that splash 3 seconds after we saw the splash.
And that is the end of my little photo ditty of our adventure in Wisconsin on July 4th.
