This story is set in 1938 in New York city.
“Home sweet home” Kim said as she followed Theresa and Angie into their apartment. Kim put her suitcase on the shabby couch and sighed as she sat down beside it. “Well, it’s better than my cell” she said. “Try not to shoplift anymore, or at least not get caught. It’s hard enough coming up with the rent between the three of us much less just two” Theresa said partly joking. “Well it’s nice to know I was missed for me and not just my rent money!” “You know we missed you” Angie said moving the suitcase and sitting down next to her. “I know” Kim said. “We’ve been friends so long it didn’t seem right you not being here” Theresa said also sitting down beside Kim. “I’m sorry girls. You know I was only stealing that bracelet to hock it and get the money.” “We know” Angie said in an understanding tone. “Look, you go get unpacked and cleaned up and I’ll fix dinner” Theresa said heading into the kitchen. “Oh, real food sounds so good!” Kim said giggling as she went to her room.
The next morning the girls sat around the table drinking coffee and talking. Theresa was flipping through the paper when something caught her eye in the Society pages. “Oooh, look at these guys!” she said turning the paper so Kim and Angie could see. “They’re gorgeous! Who are they?” Kim said. “It says they are brothers, John , Rick and George Holden. It looks like their father just died leaving them a ton of dough. It says they’re all still single too. Wouldn’t I love to land one of them” Theresa said sighing as she turned the page. “That’s not a bad idea” Kim said setting her coffee down and drifting off as in deep thought. “I know that look” Angie said, “something’s cooking in that bean of yours.” “Well, wouldn’t you girls each like to have you own handsome millionaire?” “Sure, who wouldn’t?” Theresa said laughing. “And how do you propose we catch ‘em?” Angie asked as she sat back in her chair and folded her arms. “Well, we find out where they live or work, or where they like to hang out. Then we make sure they notice us and go from there” Kim answered very matter of factly. “Oh come on, can you imagine how many girls, including high society dames must be after them? What chance do we have?” Angie said. “Look,” Kim said, “we’re all pretty nice looking and we’ve been able to use that before to get what we wanted.” “Oh, that was always small time stuff though” Angie said completely dismissing the idea. “Now wait a minute Angie, this might actually work” Theresa said. “I know a guy who works at the motor vehicle department and I bet he could get us their addresses” she said. “We’ll seem too desperate if we just show up where they live for no reason.” Angie said still not sure this plan would work. “Then we’ll just do like I said and find out where they work or spend their free time” Kim said. A smile started to form on Angie’s face as she thought about it. “I don’t know, maybe.” “Oh come on,” Kim said, “we’ll at least have some fun trying.” “Okay” Angie said finally agreeing.
“Now, how are we gonna decide which ones we want?” Kim said looking at their picture again. “How about we go by age. I’ll take the youngest one George , Kim, you can take Rick the middle one and Angie will take the oldest one John.” “That’s fine with me” Angie said. “That works for me too” Kim replied. “Okay, I’m gonna get dressed and go talk to Mark and see if I can get their addresses” Theresa said as she got up and went to go find the perfect outfit to get what she needed. Later that afternoon she returned home smiling proudly from ear to ear. “Did you get it?” Angie said excitedly as Theresa came through the door. “I sure did. We’re in business now girls.” “I don’t know about you but I’m gonna get started right now!” Angie said taking her guys address and grabbing her purse. “She wasn’t even sure this was a good idea and now she’s the first one out the door” Kim said as she and Theresa laughed.
