lol, I changed my guys name so much I had to go back to the very beginning to remember what it was! *Smacks head and repeats obnoxiously (like Ingrid Bergman)* Robert, Robert, Robert, Robert.....ROBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Why on earth did I choose that name? I should have stuck with Rick...or Bob, for goodness sake.
"Rob," Colonel Strong, one of Browns' second-in-command friend, begins, "it'll do you some good to start seeing her; it's been 4 years -- you need to put it behind y--" "Put it behind me?" Rob says angrily, glaring at Ed Strong with clenched teeth. "I loved her, Ed, you know that. How could I forget about her? She was my life!" "'Was' is the key word here. Don't let the past of Susan's memory destroy your hope for the future." Ed hesitates then looks straight into his eyes. "You like her, don't you?" Rob scoffs the question away, "I don't even know her; I've only met her twice and both times she acted as if she was disgusted with me." "I think she's left a bigger impression on you than you think. Go ask her out for tea -- or a piece of pie even! Get your mind off the past and focus on the living, Rob -- you need that." Rob goes to snap back, But in my mind Susan is living! And we're happy together...like we always were. But he stops short, knowing deep down inside that Ed's right. Rob stands up and walks to the door. "I'll have pie with her, but if you think I'm gonna go falling for this girl...you're nuts." Rob closes the door behind himself and heads over to his quarters to turn in for the evening.

*After Angie's dress had dried she went back into Tom's room to change (I almost called him Peter!). She noticed a bottle of aftershave on his dresser and she opened it to breathe in the warm scent. Then she got an idea and opened each drawer until she found what she was looking for. She pulled out one of his white t-shirts and held it up against her shoulders. She giggled a little as it was several sizes too big for her. Then she took his aftershave and sprinkled a little of it on his shirt.*
Tom: *knocking on the door softly* It's getting late, we better get going.
Angie: I'm just about ready. *She said as she managed to stuff the shirt into her purse. She felt a little bad about taking it but he had several of them and she figured he wouldn't miss one. Besides it would give her something that was his, something she could hold on to when she wasn't with him.*
Tom: I don't want this night to end. *He said as he held her hand while they walked back to her apartment.*
Angie: Well I'll see you tomorrow right?
Tom: You'll see me everyday. In fact you'll see so much of me you just might get tired of me.
Angie: Never! *she said giggling*.
*They got to her apartment and she invited him in to meet her sisters who were sitting at the piano singing.*
Angie: Girls, girls! *she shouted to get their attention.*
Kim: Hey how was your date?
Angie: Well that's what I wanted to tell you. You remember that little boy that used to live next door to us when we were kids?
Theresa: Yeah, a little. Didn't you call him Sugarpants or something?
Angie: It was Sugarbritches. *she said chuckling*. Well I'd like to re-introduce you using his real name, Thomas Thorn.
Kim: Tom, you're little Sugarbritches?! *she said surprised*
Tom: Yep, Snickerdoodle. *he said as he gave her a hug*
Tom: You've still got those rosey cheeks *he said to Theresa as he hugged her too.*
Theresa: How did you figure out who each other was?
Angie: He still had the teddy bear I gave him.
Kim: Well how have you been all this time?
Tom: Okay I guess. Mom passed away a few years ago and I inherited the ranch where we lived. I was working there until I decided I wanted to try something different for a while so I joined the army. I only have a few more months left to serve then I'll go back to the ranch.
Theresa: That's really something that you two found each other again. *Her voice almost cracked as she said this. She was happy for Angie but still upset over the way William had treated her earlier that evening when they met on the street.*
Angie: I know, I can't really believe it myself.
Tom: I hate to leave but I better get going before they close the base and I get locked out.
*They said their goodbyes and Angie went into her room to get ready for bed. She pulled the crumpled shirt out of her purse and put it on. She couldn't stop smiling as she snuggled under her covers breathing in the wonderful smell of his clean shirt mixed with aftershave.*

kim:what's that smell? theresa, do you smell that?
theresa: yes, i do
they both walk toward the smell into angie's room
kim and theresa stand in angie's doorway sniffing the air.
angie: whats wrong?
theresa: are you wearing some new perfume or something?
angie: oh..no*she giggles and scrunches the shirt up to her nose* it is the shirt
kim: a shirt smells like that?
theresa:hey wait a minute, that isnt your shirt...is it?
angie:maybe.....okay no it isnt. it is tom's, and i sprinkled some of his aftershave on it too.
kim: angie rose!!!!!!
angie: oh stop yelling, nothing happened, i just kind of borrowed it so i can remember him.*she smiles cheasily*
theresa: my goodness, arent you goona see him again?
angie: well he seemed to think so, and i do hope so too.
kim: well then why....
angie: nevermind girls, im tired
in the morning kim comes running past angie and theresa's room, and heads for the door. the footseps of the running woke both of them up.
kim answers the door with her robe closed tightly in her hands clinched to her chest.
kim:oh it is you sailor
william: um...yes, i know it is a bit early in the morning, but i was wondering if--
kim: you want angie right?
william: well actually i wanted to see theresa
kim's eyes widened with bewilderness
kim:sure*she says with wonder* come in, wont you?
william:thank you
angie:*walking out of her room with her robe over her shirt from tom* what was all the running ---oh hello sailor!
william:hello*he gulps and smiles* angie
angie: did you need anything?
william: actually i--
theresa:*walking into the room as well, looking confused as to why william is there, and looking at her* what are you doing here? *she says in a mannered tone*
kim motions to angie moving her lips and points
let's go in the other room
they head to angie's room since it is closest to the living room and they slightly poke their heads through the door listening to the whole thing.
william: what am i doing here?
theresa: i already asked you that
william: yes, well i just wanted to apoligize for being so rude last night
angie looks to kim and whispers
angie: last night? they saw each other last night?
kim:dont look at me, i didnt know this.
angie: why didnt she tell us about that?
kim:she did go for a walk though while you were--
angie: shh
theresa:well, i......i
william:i know, i know, i bumped into you, and i shouldnt have shouted like that at a woman, after all you are a woman arent you?*he gets caught up in his words*
theresa: wha*she cant finish her sentence stunned with more anger* am i a woman?
william: no that wasnt what i meant
theresa: what do you mean that wasnt what you meant?!
kim:they are so in love they dont even know it
angie giggles and slaps her head
theresa: just what did you mean?
william: well, i dont even remember now
theresa:*calming down and lowering her voice, walking to the door* would you please leave?
william:im not finished yet!
theresa: what else is there to say?!
william sighs heavily and grabs her arms pulling her close to him immediately and kissing her. she struggles for a minute trying to push him away, but cant, and then relaxes
theresa:*trying to catch her breath* and what was that for?
william: to see if you are real!*he opens the door and walks out slamming it shut behind him*

William opens the door just as Angie and Kim jump back, pretending they heard not a word of any of this. William walks out of the apartment and heads toward his bunk. Theresa walks out and takes a deep sigh, pushing aside a chunk of hair that's fallen in front of her eyes. "So...?" Angie giggles, looking to Theresa. "'So' what?" Theresa says, almost perturbed-like. "Oh, nevermind." Angie chuckles, walking into her room. "'Night..." Angie closes the door and goes to bed. Kim stands smiling, like a proud big sister, next to Theresa. "What?!" Theresa shouts, "It was just one kiss! It didn't mean anything. Besides, I...well, I just don't like him -- he isn't my type!" With that said, Theresa slams her bedroom door and falls onto her bed, both angry at William for making her emotions even more confused, but her goofy smile returns and her heart flutters, he kissed me.... She thinks to herself, cuddling her pillow tight.
Kim opens the refrigerator and digs around for something to snack on -- but there isn't a thing to eat in the whole house. She looks at the clock then back into the fridge. 11:25 "Well, curfew isn't until 12 so I have a few minutes to run over to the cafeteria for a little midnight snack." Kim takes her jacket and heads on down to the cafeteria. She opens the door and walks in towards the back, to the fridge. "Mr. Brown?" Kim asks as she sees the figure of a man digging through the fridge. He turns around, somewhat startled, when he sees her standing there in her nightgown. She looks down slowly then gasps, quickly covering herself with her jacket. "My fridge was empty so I thought I'd --" Rob starts sheepishly, Kim nods and chuckles weakly, "Me too." Rob takes out a large slice of pecan pie and begins to walk away; he hesitates, remembering what his friend told him: It's time to focus on the living.... Rob turns around and pauses, then clears his throat. "Would you like some pie?" He asks lowly. "I wouldn't want to take your pie, Mr. Brown..." "It's hardly my pie, Ms. Rose." Rob chuckles, instantly surprised that he was able to crack a joke with this woman so easily and make her smile so quickly. She accepts and the two walk over toward the tables and sit down, both eating at the same piece of pie. Kim looks to Rob and studies his face; he looks up, with an inquiring look on his face, "What's the matter?" Kim looks down and continues picking at the pie. "Oh, I was just wondering if this was another set-up by your friends." "Set-up? You met me here. You're a very leery person, aren't you?" Rob laughs. Kim goes to correct him and say, "of course not!" but the words get stuck in her throat when she realizes he's exactly right. "It's getting late." Kim says quietly, laying down her fork on the empty plate. Rob looks at his watch and frowns, "uh oh." Kim looks to him immediately and picks up her jacket, "what time is it?" "12:15." He replies, picking up his coat as well. "Oh no!" Kim makes her way to the door and begins to walk out when Rob walks up behind her and stops her, looking around. "If you're caught stepping foot on military property after midnight they'll cancel your show for tomorrow and suspect us of...--" "What are we going to do?" Kim asks, worried. Rob gets an idea and walks to the back of the cafeteria, picking up a blanket. He walks back to Kim and begins to open it up. "We are not sleeping here, Mr. Brown!" Kim says, shocked. Rob lifts Kim into his arms and positions the blanket in his other hand while his eyes catch hers. He clears his throat and looks toward the door, "which apartment house do you live in and in which room?" "407 and 23." Kim replies. "All right, I'm going to carry you there. But if anyone stops us don't make a sound." "Why must you carry me? I can walk just fine on my own!" "Because 1. if they do catch us...it wouldn't matter because you're feet aren't actually on the ground -- mine are. And 2. if anyone sees me they'll think I'm just carrying a sack of potatoes." Kim gasps, "A sack of potatoes?!" She calms herself and shakes her head, knowing there really isn't any other way around this situation. "All right, let's hurry up." Kim says reluctantly. Tom hands Kim the blanket and she puts it over herself. Tom walks out into the courtyard and makes his way, quickly, to the apartments. They get inside the apartments safely and up to her room without a single person noticing. Inside, Rob sets her down and laughs at her mussed up hair as she takes off the blanket. Kim clears her throat and hands him the blanket, perturbed. "Thank you, Mr. Brown." She says as she fixes her hair. "You're welcome." He says in a serious tone. He exits the apartment and walks back to his quarters.
The next morning the daily paper is delivered to each room at 9 am in the morning. Theresa picks it up and giggles at the front cover. "Angie!" Theresa calls out, closing the door behind herself. "What?" Angie says, walking up to Theresa. "Look." Theresa shows Angie the papers. "So? It's a man carrying a sack of potatoes." Angie shrugs. "No, look!" Theresa points to the foot sticking out. The two girls begin to laugh hysterically when Kim walks into the room. "What's all the noise?" Kim inquires. "Kim, look at this." Theresa says, handing Kim the paper. Kim takes it and gasps, turning bright red.

Theresa: Who do you think that is?
Angie: I don't know but it looks like they were up to no good. *she said giggling*
Kim: We were only grabbing a midnight snack!! *she said defensively*
Angie: What do you mean we? Is this you?!
Kim: Uh, yeah. It's me and Mr. Brown. We were sharing a piece of pie and we realized it was past curfew so he wrapped me in the blanket and carried me back here.
Theresa: My goodness! It's a good thing you can't see his face or you'd both be in big trouble.
Kim: Well nothing happened!
Angie: Gee, that's too bad. *she said causing all three to giggle.*
*Later that day Angie met Tom for lunch and afterwards they took a walk through the park.*
Angie: This is nice. *She said as they walked through the park holding hands.*
Tom: Yeah it is. It's kinda strange though.
Angie: What do you mean?
Tom: Well I guess it's been 15 years since we've seen each other and it seems like it was yesterday.
Angie: *letting go of his hand and wrapping her arm around his* I know. I've thought about you a lot over the years and wondered how you were doing.
Tom: I thought the same thing about you. You and your sisters were the only real friends I ever had. I haven't really gotten close to anybody since we moved. Then when Mom died a few years ago I really withdrew from everybody.
Angie: What made you ask me out then?
Tom: I'm not sure. It was something in your eyes. You seemed different from other girls. Sweeter I guess. *he said blushing slightly*
Angie: Well whatever it was I'm glad you did. *She stopped and reached up on her tip toes to kiss his cheek.* Your break is almost over, we better head back. Will you come to the show tonight?
Tom: Sure I will.

that night all three girls were head over heels in love, and werent paying attention to anything going on in their surroundings. even though theresa didnt want to admit it, she was in love with william, she just didnt know it yet.
theresa: i dont feel like singing that song we have to sing tonight
angie: which one?
theresa: ive got you under my skin
kim: why not?
theresa: just because alright
angie gasps and theresa turns around to look at her instantly hoping she doesnt know why
angie and kim look to each other as if they know and smile, then frown, acting as if they dont
theresa: why did you two just give each other a look?
kim: what?
angie: no we didnt
theresa: yes you did
kim: it was nothing
angie: you have to sing it tonight theresa, it is what is scheduled
theresa walks out of the room mumbling things under her breath, and angie and kim burst out in laughter.
kim: she is so in love!
angie: she is too funny, i hope she realizes it soon.
kim: i wonder if william will be there tonight
angie: *giggles slightly* wont she be in for a treat if he is.
kim: i hope mr. brown will be there
angie: i already know tom will be there*as she touches up her lipstick in front of the mirror and blows a kiss to it.

The girls walk out on stage and begin their number. As they sing and dance, each girl scans her eyes about the room -- in anxious anticipation to find her guy. Angie spots Tom almost immediately, seeing as he's sitting in the front row, smiling at her and watching intently. Theresa finds William leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette and trying not to look obvious that the only reason he's in the club at all is because of her. 3 Songs into their routine -- with one song left -- Kim finds no sign of Rob anywhere. She figures he's a busy man with things to do; why should she keep her hopes up anyways? She saw the ring on his finger -- he's a married man. She bucks it up and tries her best to feel geniune happiness for her sisters; after all the weirdos they've met, they deserve a couple of guys who will treat them right...or at least keep their minds occupied with love and romance instead of mobsters and killings until it's time to ship out. Kim will do what she does best -- keep an eye on things and make sure she's one step ahead of everything (and everyone) else. 'Don't feel, just think' is her motto; and in this situation, she'll try her darndest to put Mr. Brown out of her mind so her emotions don't get the better of her and ultimately leave her with regrets.
The girls walk off stage and head toward their dressing room. "So, you gonna go with Tom tonight, Angie?" Theresa asks as she dresses behind the curtain. "I hope so, I mean, he hasn't asked me yet but it's a friday night -- he's gotta ask!" Angie giggles, touching up her lipstick. "What about you, Kim?" Angie asks, "You gonna have a date with General Brown tonight?" She asks with a slight smirk. "He's not here tonight, I think I'll just stay and clean up -- Mrs. Baker needs help anyways." Kim replies. "Yeah, I think I'll help you, too. Will didn't look like he was about to ask me on a date," Theresa jokes, "so you and I will have a cleaning party." Kim chuckles and nods, "All right, I'll go let Mrs. Baker know." Kim leaves the room and heads toward the cafeteria. Later, when she returns to the dressing room, Kim finds the dressing room empty. She heads over to the stage and peaks through the curtain, seeing Theresa and Will heading out through the exit. Kim laughs to herself and fixes on her apron, walking back over to Mrs. Baker for cleaning instructions. A couple hours later, after the entire place is cleared out -- all the soldiers, sailors, and marines are out for a romantic friday night with their gals -- Kim lays on the stage, with her legs hanging over the edge, and dreams of her future. The auditorium door opens and closes, drawing Kim's attention; she looks up. "Mr. Brown." She says, surprised. Rob walks up to her and sits next to her on the stage. "Sorry I couldn't make it." He says quietly, not wanting to tell her the real reason he ignored her show was because he didn't want to 'lead her on'. "Oh, that's all right." Kim says sincerely. "I didn't want you to feel pushed into it." She says teasingly, smirking. "I wasn't pushed!" He says defensively. He looks at her and calms down, taking a deep sigh. "I just didn't want you to think I was interested." He says, immediately kicking himself for wording it wrong. Kim gasps, absolutely flabberghasted. "So you aren't interested--well, Mr. Brown, I'm glad you find me so repulsive! Next time I'll try my best at looking downright hideous so you won't have any problems in ignoring me completely!" Kim jumps down from the stage and walks toward the exit. "I didn't mean it like that, Miss Rose!" Rob shouts. Kim slams the door on her way out, leaving Rob to sit all by himself with an explanation weighing heavy on his chest. Just quit trying; she obviously doesn't like you and never will. You're perfectly happy with the memory of Susan -- another woman would only try to make you erase her existance; and no one could replace Susan...no one.

*Angie and Tom were sitting in the restaurant enjoying their dinner when one of the soldiers in Tom's unit came in and saw him actually smiling and enjoying himself.*
Soldier: Hey Tom, finally having a little fun huh? *he said jokingly*
Tom: Hey Dave. I'd like you to meet Ms. Rose.
Dave: Nice to meet you miss.
Angie: Nice to meet you to.
Dave: I don't know how you did it but it's nice to see him having fun and not looking so sullen all the time.
Angie: Well I'll try to keep it up *she said smiling and taking Tom's hand*.
*After dinner they walked back to Angie's apartment.*
Angie: *standing on the steps outside* It's still early, you wanna come in for a while?
Tom: Sure, I've got a surprise for you too.
Angie: What is it? *she asked smiling*
Tom: It's a surprise. *he said as they walked into her apartment*
Angie: Hey, anybody home? *She got no reply* I guess we have the place to ourselves.
Tom: Good *he said as he took her in his arms and gently kissed her*
*They sat down on the couch and Tom reached into his pocket and pulled out a little box wrapped with a white ribbon.*
Tom: I saw this and thought you might like it.
*Angie opened the box to see a gold locket inside.*
Angie: Oh Tom it's beautiful!!
Tom: Open it.
*Angie opened the locket to find a picture of him when he was a little boy. Her eyes filled up with tears as she hugged him.*
Angie: I love it! Help me put it on. *she said as she turned around and he fastened it around her neck.*
*She leaned back against his chest and he wrapped his arms around her.*
Angie: I could stay like this forever *she said sighing happily*
*Meanwhile, on a train headed for Toronto are three men the girls would rather not run into again.*

william:well i wont speak either then
for five minutes they keep walking in complete silence, then theresa speaks up
theresa:i think you enjoy it *still angry because he kissed her, but deep dpwn she really loves him
william: enjoy what?
theresa: enjoy making my life complicated
william:wha-! do yo-!.......you really are the strangest girl i have ever come to meet!
theresa:how profound*she says shrugging and crossing her arms*
william:why are you so strongly against me?
theresa: because yo--*with that almost said, he drops his sailor hat and grabs her in toward his chest, kissing her. she struggles at first, trying to push him away, but suddenly feels safe in his arms and rests her tight fists, on her tippiest tippy toes wrapping her arms around his neck.*

william: *chuckling* your cheeks have been hot pink since we left the canteen
on the train the three men were on the edge of their seats, and not happy about the girls moving so far away. they were restless and ready to take full control of angie, kim, and theresa. in ten mminutes they will be getting off the train ready to look for them.

That evening, as Kim wanders down to a pond, not far from the back of the auditorium hall, she takes a seat on a bench that overlooks the water sparkling in the moonlight. Sighing, she looks down at her hands and fidgets, angry with herself that she continuously handles the situation with Mr. Brown wrongly -- every single time. It's no wonder he isn't interested in me, I expect too much from him; and why? Am I such a homewrecker that I'd expect him to cheat on his wife to make me feel the way Angie does about Tom?She shakes her head in disgust, pushing aside her silly thoughts, and walks back to her apartment. Kim opens the door to find Angie and Theresa in bed; she looks at her watch and takes a double take. 1:35?! What was I thinking? We have an early show to do at 9 tomorrow morning! She quickly gets into her bed, not knowing a thing about the three men who set up bunks just a couple buildings down from them -- and put up a front as 'lonely drifters.' The next morning as the girls prepare for their number in their dressing room, Fred -- the music coordinator -- peeks his head in and gives the five finger signal: FIVE MINUTES. The girls nod and continue getting ready, quickening their pace. They step into their positions onstage and begin to sing once the curtain rises. The place, now growing with more soldiers as word spreads that three beautiful young ladies are entertaining the troops, cheer and whistle while Kim, Theresa and Angie dance and sing the song 'Near You'. Angie spots Tom and fixes her eyes on him, singing as if she's singing the lyrics directly to his heart; he smiles, completely captivated that he's found his long lost dream girl at last -- and who would have thought...in an army canteen? Theresa sees Will and bats her eyes flirtaciously then feels her cheeks get hot when she sees him raise a brow and smile back. Kim notices the three mobsters enter into the hall and look around; and she knows exactly who they're looking for. Kim tries to focus on her steps, but she's finding it difficult to keep the beat with the music. The music begins to fade and she feels her heart beating faster until her entire mind is consumed with terrifying thoughts on what these three men are going to do once they meet up with her and her sisters -- alone. Kim quickly walks off stage; Theresa and Angie look to each other, then follow after her. "What's the matter with you?" Angie says as she walks backstage, behind the curtain, and folds her arms in a gruff manner. "The men are here -- they found us; I don't know how but they found us." (LOL, I sound like Doc Brown ) Kim says in a frightened tone. "What?!" Angie exclaims, peering through the side of the curtain, scanning the room. "How?!" Theresa gasps. "I don't know, but we can't let them see us!" Kim replies. "Let's go through the back and--" Angie begins when Kim cuts her off. "If we go through the back then they'll catch us alone." Kim takes a sigh and tries to think. "Let's just stay here for a while and think of some way to get out of here -- alive." "I'm not leaving Will." Theresa says sternly, for the first time speaking up for herself. Angie looks to Kim and nods in agreement, "And I'm not leaving Tom. Besides, Tom and Will are very capable of handling those men for us; why don't we just tell them what's going on an--" "And who's gonna take care of Chris for me? I'd ask for a loan on your men but they seem to be all booked up." Kim says sarcastically with a sharp tongue. "What's your problem, Kim? I've never seen you act so immature before. Geez, you're supposed to be the smart one in the family but you're acting like a spoiled little brat!" The frustrated tone in Angie's voice echos throughout the room; Theresa stands silently, but Kim knows they both feel the same way. "I'm sorry, I just..." Kim sighs and looks down, "I just want to be as happy with a guy as you both are with Tom and Will." "What about..." Theresa snaps her fingers, trying to remember Rob's name. "Mr...." "Mr. Brown?" Kim asks. "He's a married man." "So he can't save you because he's married? That's a shame." Theresa scoffs. "Look, there's about 500 soldiers out there and only 3 mobsters; those soldiers aren't gonna let anything happen to us. Let's just walk out there and give an announcement that there are three mobsters on our tail; they'll be outta here before our next number. Whaddya' say?" Kim looks to Angie, then to Theresa. "I think you've been the smart one in the family the whole time and you just kept it a secret." Kim smiles, "Let's go."
