This thread is for a beginner adventurer; a chick who's not new to the creative writing field (she's been doing this long before we have and her skills surpass our silly posts) but she hasn't yet adventured in the way we have, so this little spot is for my sister, Chris...
The date is May 7, 1924; Kim struggles to find her shoe.
Kim: I can't find it! I had it a minute ago!
Chris: Well jeez, you really can't keep track of anything, can you?
Kim: *Sigh* We've gotta hurry up, that train leaves in *looks at watch* 30 minutes and I'm still not fully dressed!
Chris: *Sits near the door, fully dressed, with her coat on and purse in hand* Sorry you're so scatter-brained, sis...tough luck.
Kim: *Still searching around, looking under the bed for her shoe* You could at least help...
Chris: *Chuckles, holding her hand out in front of her, staring at her finger tips* Yeah....I could.
Kim: *A frustrated sigh forces its way through her lips* Fine...be that way.
Chris: *Laughs* I know where that shoe is just as much as you do...I'd only get my dress dirty, and *ahem, pretending to brush some dust off her skirt* I'd mess my dress up...
Kim: *Rolls her eyes, then shrieks, grabbing onto her shoe from under the bed and holding it high in the air* Ah HA! I found it!
Chris: Good...can we go now?

Kim: *with hesitation* "As soon as I can find the.....key's?" ;D *as if asking; then quickly dropping her head to resume a Cinderella posture on the floor with broad sweepings of the arms under the bed, again.*
Chris: *Dangles the ring from her finger palm up, elbow tucked in her side, haughtily looking off in the direction of the window....* "Well I can't imagine why they would be under the bed, just as I can't see how a shoe disappears instantaneously to the underbelly of a room." *With that having been said, she saw what she had expected in her peripheral vision -a whipping of the head and a glaring of the eyes as Kim recognized the insanity her sister was imposing upon her just before this crucial engagement.*
Kim: *Getting off her knees, and moving at a determined pace toward Chris, she speaks in a crescendo; "You know, you have the strangest way of mentally preparing me for these things!"
Chris:* A breeze, faintly felt -as Kim whisked by- snatching the keys from her smirking, sisters finger. "Hey, be careful of the nails...."
Kim: "You mean the claws?"
The door is shut, then locked; all is secure for the month.

*The two head down the steps and into the porch area*
*Kim gives the landlady her routine sloppy salute and picks up her bags, which have been waiting near the door for at least a good 45 minutes*
Kim: Well, we're finally out of this dump!
*The words slip from her lips a little too carelessly as the landlady gives her a dirty look*
*Kim looks to the woman, then back to Chris, chuckling weakly*
Kim: *Ahem* *Leaning into Chris, whispering* Just glad to be out of this place...we're finally on our way to Montana!
Chris: *Rolls her eyes, giving the landlady a glare that could turn lava into ice* Yeah...never did like that lady...but I don't want to move to Montana for good!
Kim: Nah, we won't. It's just a small vacation.
Chris: *Looks around; picking the old paint off the walls* I'll miss this place; even though it's run-down and shabby, it's still home, ya' know?
Kim: I know. And we'll be back, don't worry.
*The two step outside, after the taxi is fully loaded with their belongings*
Kim: *To driver* JFK Airport, please.
Driver: *Nods* Yes, miss.
*The two sit back and enjoy the ride; taking in the scenery.*
Chris: Goodbye New York...
Kim: Hello Montana!
Chris: A whole month in Montana? Oh jeez, this oughta be an experience I shant forget...

Turning to Kim as they passed the St. Regis(*1) Chris interrupted the fantastical moment with a dig:
Chris: You’ve got to quit teasing that poor lady you call a land lady, she may be the snooty daughter of Frank Case(*2), the charming owner, not as graced with fineness as is her mother; so why not have a tender heart, sister, she's grown up around money and she can't help but mimic these snobs checking in and out.
Kim: Snobs like.....(she couldn't say it)..us?
Chris: Casting a glance down to her nails she just gave a little, "Humph".
Marion Harris' 'After You've Gone'(*3), played in her head as she sat remembering all those things she knew Kim was remembering too; 'what will happen when she see's him?', she wondered. Chris felt so sad for her sister's loss, they both looked out their windows. The awkward silence lingered as the taxi rolled through town, 'Maybe I should have left that one alone', she thought to herself.
It hadn’t been but 2 weeks since. ...she lamented that even though the humor had always cheered Kim's woes, this time it was different.
As they arrived at the train station aka airport -which was another one of their jokes. You see, the wealthy were the butt of all their jokes. This did not exclude Joseph P. Kennedy(*4), the womanizing, motion picture distributor who walked past the two one evening over to the front desk at The Algonon(New York){*2} 6 weeks earlier with Gloria Swanson on his right arm, checking into the hotel.
This man was definitely a candidate to name something after....something outlandish-like himself. So because of his rise in fame and fortune so quickly they thought of a suicide bomber who rises high then plummets to the earth. Yes, an airplane.
He was also a ship builder(*4), maybe his personal ship had a lot of baggage that needed to be unloaded, hmm...a port. Many saw his rise, many then would see his fall; so they thought of a place where many could gather... It seemed he transported the onlookers of his life to envy. The girls had it! A place like a railroad station where people go to travel, but by air.
Suppose there could be, as the news papers suggested, planes made to carry large amounts of people. What would one call such a place for these planes? An airport!
He fooled his wife, his family, the public....he needs a nick name, Joe Fib Kennedy...
JFK Airport. Aha
So now whenever the girls would travel they had it between themselves that their travel would be by plane from The JFK Airport.
They were so close to the humor of which years later would be revealed to them: there would be such a place, named such a name, except the name would be not exactly his as they had dubbed him. Rather, it would be the son of Joseph P. Kennedy.
As old ladies they would laugh between themselves when they
would say,” The Fib FITS GERALD."
Chris, Placing her hand on her sister's; kim turns her gaze from the window to look at her sister..."We far from the JFK?"
Kim smiles Chris smiles
Then they laugh...

The hours creep by slowly as Kim's mind wanders off in another world, escaping reality for just a few moments as she fixes her gaze towards the trees that whizz by; the moon casting shadows on the lightly fallen snow that had just showered down the night before.
The train shakes and creeks on it's steel, metal tracks as Kim looks around at the other passengers sleeping in their seats in the late hours of the night. She, who is unable to sleep due to a mind that keeps racing; racing, as if trying to out-speed the train, lays her head back on the hard, leathery seat then picks herself up, nudging Chris's arm.
'Huh, what?' Chris looks around, groggy and squinting, looking up to Kim, 'Oh, what time is it?'
Kim slowly pulls out her pocket watch and looks to Chris, '2:00' 'Oh, how long have I been asleep?'
'Just a few hours. I thought I'd wake you up and get you into your compartment...we'll be reaching the outskirts of Montana at 4 this afternoon, and you'll wanna get rested.'
Chris stretches and yawns, then picks up her coat, which she had been using to cover herself with as she napped. The two walk to the back compartment and get situated, laying their belongings next to the door. Kim, who's laying on the bottom bunk, closing her eyes, whispers to Chris,
''Night...'
Chris is sound asleep, snoring away. Kim chuckles to herself then turns to her side and falls asleep.
