I read an article on Dean yesterday where it said he was trying to imatate Bing Crosby early on. I think they are quite different myself in style but maybe I never heard his early stuff.
That's Amore is the song that I think of most when Dean is mentioned but I am sure that many of his other songs that I am not as familar with are probably better than this one.

I was watching the "Everybody Loves Somebody" Biography clips on youtube, there's six of them all together if you ever care to watch them. Just search, "Dean Martin Biography" or sommit like that...anyroads, in one of those clips he says sommit like, "Everyone tried to imitate Crosby, everyone got their style from him." But then in another clip, or possibly the same one, he goes on to say, "I loved Harry Mills of the Mills Brothers and tried to imitate him." Of course, not those words, but the quote marks just to differentiate the paraphrasing from my own words

For example, the mills brothers and dean both recorded Glow Worm and Naughty Lady Of Shady Lane. If you listen to those back to back you can hear dean's influence of harry mills

Sway has never really been one of my favorite songs. Just today I started to fall in love with the song, "You'd be Surprised." I'll have to try that though, listen to a Mills Brothers song and then the same Dean song...I love both of 'em, unfortunately, I don't have as many Mills Brothers recordings as I do of Dean's.

I have a cd with some of Dean's early recordings and he sounds a lot like Bing.

I honestly think he sounds a lot like both the Mills Brothers and Bing, so he probably drew his inspiration from both sources.

His charming voice could sing anything. One of my favorites is: "Daddy's Little Girl". I can listen to that over and over.

I made the same mistake on another song; and I figured it wasn't Dean because Dean has a smile in his voice; this guy is great, too, but thanks for clearing that up, Alexa! Now I know for a 100% fact, lol. It was bothering me for the longest time! Still such a beautiful song, though

haha np. There's a few songs on limewire that say they're dean when they're really not. I think another is Little Bubbles or something like that, or Lucky Bubbles? I'm not sure of the title.

Haha, I was really happy when I found a version of Que Sera Sera with Doris and Dean but of course there was no Dean in it.
